With the Elton John concert on the 9th June 2012 the pitch maintenance can‘t start until after that date, and the 2012/13 season starting on 18th August 2012 because of the Olympics, is there a case for all our pre-season friendly’s to be away, to give the pitch a good two months growing time before the start of the season? Would it be a good time for a pre-season tour of somewhere exotic, if Oxford can do the USA then surely we can do Thailand with Man Utd or get an invite to the Emirates Cup, if Celtic can why not us?

 Because of the Charity game on the 29th May it was early June before the maintenace programme began. With the season starting on August 6th this left it a bit tight. With next season starting later due to the Olympics an even later start might not be much of a problem. Then again the scarifying might be able to be done before the gig as the pitch will be boarded out anyway.

I was trying to have a little fun on the theme of pre-season foreign trips that seem to be the fashion at the moment, but at the same time make a point that if these concerts are to become a regular summer occurrence, as the man on the “free view” piece implied they would be, then at some time the gap between concert and first pre-season game will be too small for the well being of the pitch. As pointed out the opening of next season is being delayed to help the Olympics so we should be ok, but we will not always be so fortunate so the idea of no home pre-season football will be an issue sooner or later.

How about the Caribbean, with a 75% discount if you go with true blue travel?

How about a tour of the unfriendly hinterlands of that deprived and dissolute county they call Yorkshire, at the same time as our missionary work teaching the heathens how to play football correctly we could put in some literacy work, and maybe teach them how to speak English at the same time, they do say charity work is good for the soul.
