Away sides must be allocated 15% of avaialble seats in the FA Cup (It's 10% in the League Cup). For us this means that Pompey have to receive around 1700 seats - most of the north stand (which becomes all of the north stand for obvious reasons). Any team can offer more; they just can't offer less.

We got less at West Brom

They’ll open up the rest of the east stand for home fans when the rest is sold out should demand require it

I’m amazed that some people are stumped by this

We were offered the minimum amount, but turned them down based on having to pay for them up front

So if you are offered the whole stand and don’t sell them you have to pay for the lot?

Example, Northampton last year brought 700 in a stand that holds 1800

Doesn’t add up to me.

If you are ordering catering supplies and stewarding it should be obvious.

Explain to me then

WBA gave us 2500 and if we wanted the minimum amount of 15% we’d have to pay upfront

We give Northampton the whole end 18% ish, did they need to pay upfront?

Having said that, you are the guy who reckons we get commission on selling away tickets so I’m not expecting a rational explanation

West Brom are greedy ex prem bar stewards and we’re not. Does that explain it for you?

Its not an uncommon practice by some clubs, presumably they would have had to have more stewards and facilities open had we got more tickets and were ensuring they got paid to cover all that. Also it was a split stand with home fans in and had we had more tickets it would have booted some of their regulars to other seats so didnt want the hassle of all that unless they were getting paid. With that option on the table i can see why we as a club said we didnt want a load of tickets we'd have to cover even if they werent sold.

I dont think we've ever done it with the North Stand as the stand cant be used for anything else so them having it all and not filling it isnt really an issue.

I have never seen anything in the FA completion rules that suggest that if a club asks for more than the usual away allocation (up to 15%) that they have to pay for unsold tickets. In fact everything points to the opposite. Is this just an assumption?

The only thing I have seen in the rules is that the clubs have to agree the allocation for any replay prior to the first game and that receipts and unsold tickets must be returned prior to replay date.

It is all a bit hypothetical anyway as Pompey have been allocated 1800 (way more than 15%) and presumably a handful more if they sell those out

The idea was to give them their allocation in the East Stand but TV want their interviews in front of that section now and stipulating not in front of away fans…so they’re in the North.
