And yet throughout the history of the club we've barely played either of the Sheffield clubs.

I think posters such as Warfey, AC and others will verify that, before the Scabs were Scabs they were already seen as strike breakers by those in North Derbyshire because it was the Notts miners who created the Spencer union that broke ranks and went back to work during the 1920s. They went onto creating the UDM during the 84/85 strike, so they've always been scabs and hated by the mining communities of Derbyshire, Yorkshire and further afield. My own father hated them, but he also hated colliers too 🥴.

Hi Johnny.

I understand rivalry based on geography, and whilst I don't want to open a can of worms, the whole miners' strike animosity is based on the assumptions said Mansfield fan(s); were miners; and worked in the Nottinghamshire collieries; and did not join the strike.

Roughly 40 years on how many of the current crop of Mansfield fans fit that criteria?

If geography is the determinant then it should go United then Wednesday then Mansfield.

Think of the rivalry between the Yorkshire and Lancashire clubs and that's based on the War of the Roses and that ended in 1487 or the religious divide between the two Glasgow clubs. Things aren't easily forgotten or forgiven, rightly or wrongly. I've worked with some ex Notts miners who were on strike till the last and were made outcasts by family and friends and still are.

There was a video doing the rounds of some dysfunctional mansfield family (that narrows it down) ranting and threatening MKD fans a couple? of years ago, on reflection would they have been embarrassed or proud of their behaviour? Anyway a rerun would be good.

There’s another great one doing the rounds from their 3 sided shed from the weekend of a few unhappy members of the same family at being 4-0 down to Crawley

Talking to a few Stags fans yesterday after the game (i live over here on the dark side) and they are really worried that the wheels are coming off, citing major concerns about defensive injuries. Some of them walked into my local having left the game with 20 minutes to play. Not happy bunnies.I managed to stop myself laughing but only just.To be fair they're a decent bunch. They are worried about Tuesday night against FGR.

Mostly decent blokes like our fans are mostly decent - there are nutters in both camps, just as in every club. I worked in Mansfield most of my working life and one lifelong friend is a Stag. There are a few Stags in Bolsover as well -all pretty normal in my experience. They are definitely our number 1 rivals, but some of the stuff posted on here about Mansfield is lunacy not rivalry. The stronger the rivalry the better the game and occasion - packed ground and all that - so I can't wait to play them again. Nobody would be more delighted than me if we are playing them next season. They have reason to be worried.
