Interesting what can be deemed as a hate crime now. A lot of arrests coming to some fans I fear - rightly or wrongly.

So, what terms will I be able to get away with regarding referees and linesmen, without incurring the wrath of the law?

I don’t think Referees are a recognised Ethnicity, Religion or Gender so you should be OK.

Although I’d suggest only reference the colour of their kit when they’re wearing the fluorescent green or pink shirts …. Otherwise you’re in tricky territory.

(Don’t call them linesmen though, they’re the referees assistants)

See,tricky territory already for us old 'uns, fancy calling a linesman a linesman,my ignorance knows no bounds.Still smart enough to keep away from the 'kit colour' tripwire (mostly).Think we are well in the territory of 'finding offence for offence sake' with this one though.

I’ll stick with the Roy Kent from Ted Lasso insult… “oi! Highlighter!”

The Rangers v Celtic game this weekend will be the first old firm game since the new Scottish Hate Crime laws came into force.

“It introduces new offences for threatening or abusive behaviour which is intended to stir up hatred based on prejudice towards characteristics including age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity and variations in sex characteristics. These extra provisions will add to the long-standing stirring up racial hatred offences, which have been in place UK-wide since 1986.”

Good luck with that one.

Won't be a problem this at this fixture, Away fans are still banned from attending.

Won’t matter, the home fans wil still sing religious songs and it only wants one person to complain for the police to have to investigate.

It’s a ridiculous law brought in by ridiculous politicians. No way the cops will start arresting fans at football because of it.
