When I was at school we used to have War Gaming club on a Friday after school. I used to lead my troops into battle with a Highland Piper (Matchbox 1/76 scale for fellow nerds out there). One of the lads in the group used to get annoyed at my Piper for some reason and one day grabbed him off the board, bit his head off and threw him out the window. Scarred me for life it did.
Anyway the point of this waffle. The other day my mate reminded me who it was that defiled my Piper. Apparently it was Ashley Kirk!!!!!!!
So before he sticks his millions into town he owes me a new plastic Piper and compensation for my PTSD.

Just a small (and I do mean 'small') note of caution.

There have been examples of high net-worth fans taking large stakes in their local clubs that haven't always ended well.Derby and Gretna amongst several.

I guess that tricky times may be ahead of us when decisions have to be made at the club about potential 'new ballpark' new signings. And wages. And contract lengths. And revenue forecasts. And season ticket prices. And away ticketing. And food prces. And shirt prices and so on.

I've no reason to think that the Kirks will be anything other than brilliant as they invest more in the club. Maybe as fans we will need to rein in our expectations more than we'd like and recognise that financial stability is a better position that any potential boom and bust at the club. We've ought to as we've certainly had enough experience of both.

As I say, brilliant times; brilliant news and so on.

The KIrks have been high level executives & owners of oil companies, they don't do things by half measures in that industry unlike the owners of casinos & dog tracks, it'll be better than we've ever had before. We've seen the improvement in most things in the last year and a half, in no way is the work still done but there will be plans in place.
"Do you think I'm here for your amusement" & good riddance to bad rubbish

Accounts are out.

The losses for 22/23 effectively in line with the money the Kirk’s are putting in, in exchange for their next batch of shares and the controlling stake.

No huge shock

Give us a clue then. Wasn’t it said last year at this time, we were heading for a £1M loss. The Kirks are putting in £2M aren’t they, so those figures don’t marry.

They announced they were buying 2 million quids worth of shares last week.

Losses of 2.1 million quid this week for 22/23.

Next years accounts will be more interesting. We’ve been told we have a cheaper squad. We’ve seen the increased attendances. And we’ll benefit from some EFL money you’d assume. So long as we don’t go mad in the off season

Will any potential EFL income show in next years accounts though? they shouldn’t be.

So, it could be said it’s a little disappointing that we have suffered losses of £2.1M, £1M more than had been indicated at the AGM last year. This after transfer fees (Kabby presumably) received of £265k. Interesting that TV fees and football awards well down - from £257k to £178k.

Fair play to the club though, not many at this level show such detail, a lot amount to little more than a page. I see SMH have replaced Shorts as auditors. In view of their sponsorship, not unexpected.

This particular point is starting to get on my t'ts.

It's now clear, that for the second year running at an AGM, the Club's Financial Controller has had an absolute nightmare. At last year's AGM, on the 6th March, Andy Fantom said that we were on track to lose £1M. How does that loss double in less than 4 months?

I thought the days of members of the top table plucking numbers out of thin air were behind us, clearly not.

Maybe time for the Kirk’s to bring their own “people” on board, because it seems to be quite clear that if the Kirk’s wernt on board then we’d be well and truely .ucked.

If anyone attending wants to look smart there is a missing word in the Strategic Report, unless it is corrected prior to the meeting.
Under Principal Risks and Uncertainties it says “ promotion to the league but with only promotion places available “.
Surely this should read “ with only two promotion places available.”.

Demonstrates how pointless the vote at the AGM to reappoint the auditors is!

Also, a bit embarrassing for previous years’ auditors that the council loans have now been determined to be a debt of the club, rather than being shown as payable to the trust as previously. Doesn’t suggest that the audit featured great scrutiny of the loan agreements.

Could that be because of the impending majority control of the club causing a clause to be invoked which makes the loans repayable by the club on change of ownership and no longer repayable by the trust at some date in the future? No idea, just guessing... as I would expect the auditors to check loan schedules very carefully as they are one area that is pretty much black and white and non judgemental.

Possibly, as you say it would be a surprising thing to have got wrong!
