Looks great but suspect that price has gone up now so without a grant it’s not affordable for the majority of clubs.

Mr Thacker, still on the NL Board as associated with CFC but presumably carrying on as a freelancer, will I'm sure be suggesting that from now on many more NL matches should be staged on good pitches before xmas, which seems the obvious solution.

Haven't we lost a week for potential rearrangements due to having to bring the play off final forward a week due to Wembley being 'booked up' for the equivalent date of last season. One who doesn't rate the NL management (me for instance) may argue, rather than move the final to another ground and lose their big day out they decided to cut the season short by one week. That's worked well.

Didn’t they sign a multi year deal with Wembley for the play off final after the farce with Solihull v Grimsby at the West Ham ground? That would mean they have to take what’s on offer at Wembley really.

You could be right, but it would appear with no set date ie 1st, 2nd or 3rd week in May and consigning the NL to the bottom of the pecking order. Another ego trip for the powers that be without due thought and consideration to the consequences.

Bit of a drag for both sets of supporters, could the gate have been higher than borhams average gate?

The 20/21 and 21/22 season’s final were played in June due the late start/finish of the season due to the knock on effects of Covid. Prior to those years the regular season always finished in April.

God knows why they like to finish the season so early. Might be wrong but I think it is more likely historical and is about the amount of pseudo part time clubs in the NL that only contract players for the playing season (38 weeks?) and not the full 52 weeks like we and other pukka full time clubs do.

Just the 4 “home” games left now between tomorrow and the 18th presumably with the 400 mile round trip to Gloucester before an away trip to dartford to finish….some serious travelling to be done. Two of the home games are both Kent teams in Maidstone and Dover!

Probably the best solution for what is a bit of a disaster for the integrity of the competition. There is a seriously risk with a little more rain that clubs could be playing on consecutive nights. Although the weather has been exceptional, perhaps it will prompt them to extend the season and schedule the Trophy games a bit better in future. Thankfully it won’t concern us.

Like you say it won’t bother us next season, and hopefully never again, but the FAT to,be on a Saturday is proving to be a bit of an Achilles heel!

From some guy on Twitter:

McGoo@Mcgoo_84Hearing the main issue for clubs hosting the #shaymen v #oafc game is potential behaviour of OAFC fans. Seems one viable alternative, with strings being pulled by mutual clubman Rick Holden is the possibility of playing in the IOM to put Athletic fans off.

If true, why not just play it behind closed doors?

Surely it would have been better to play this behind closed doors at say a venue such as St George’s Park and stream for free on the National League site?

Presumably Halifax are hanging on to the hope of gate money.

Surprised Oldham haven’t asked for it to be played at Wembley to accommodate all their fans !!!

If the game is played late next week it probably won’t matter where is played as they will be confirmed to have missed the play offs and the fans won’t bother turning up

There's probably some milage in this claim. With Oldhams reputation, what club would want to host their knuckledraggers especially on a day when they realise not only are they not going to be champions but have also failed to make the play offs. If its the NL that are canvassing various clubs to host this potential time bomb let's hope they are asking questions of themselves has to why they didn't act in a proper manner after Oldhams transgressions at our place and again at Rochdale. Not only have they allowed thugs to decide the outcome of a football match, but now the ability to arrange games. Oh the irony.

Thankfully in 10 days time it's good riddance
