me and my mate used to go down most sunday morning, he'd be all over the White RS500 they had in there for months and I'd drool over the M2 Escorts they had in.
Recall them having a Mk2 RS2000 Custom in Signal Yellow in for a while, concourse conidtion, up for £3k.
You'd have to pay upwards of £20k for the same car now
The best RS500s now fetching up to £100k!

I've always wanted a mk1 escort RS Turbo in white with the blue decals across the bottom of the door...a good one of those is top side of £20k these days.

Lovely car in its day but if you got in one now you would find it very spartan and very slow... my SUV is faster to 60 and top speed!
I always wanted an RS 2000 but never liked the 3 door Sierra Cosworth, much preferred the Sapphire. To be honest though fast Fords weren't really my thing, preferred Vauxhalls and Peugeots. Although I did have a thing for Impreza Turbos until I borrowed one for a weekend, great when you were in the mood but noisy and uncomfortable otherwise. I was clearly old before my time!

I'm sure it is but if i bought one its because i'm in a position financially where i didnt really care and was just fulfilling a teenagers dream of owning one and it'd probably be in a garage with a few cars covering various bases.
My dad always had Fords bar one Cavalier he hated so i sort of followed that tradition with my first car being an R reg Escort 1.6Si that again probably looked sportier than it actually was. A horrible 3yr spell with a 206 Gti followed that which was probably a bit like your Impreza experience...always felt you were caning it even just doing 30mph and became tiresome. I then had a Focus ST170 which was quick enough and very good to drive with it, went all the way to the south of France and back in that and it didnt miss a beat and was great. That was the end of the "fun" cars as its been followed by two Insignia estates, first one a diesel Elite so all the toys most of which had broke along with constant DPF issues and breaking down in France on a weekend by the time i ditched it last March for a new 1.5 turbo SRi which has been very good so far.

And that is the reason for the prices - they are all bought as garage queens by people with money reliving their youth...
I’m a lot older than you, so my first car was a mark 1 Cavalier as I really wanted an Opel manta gt/e but couldn’t afford the car or the insurance. There have been some odd choices since (a Renault Grand Espace diesel... like driving around in your lounge!), some unreliable (the Espace, a Vauxhall Sintra 3.0 people carrier, a Jeep), some comfy cruisers (a few Volvos), took one car to 100k and one to 155k (both Volvos) ... and now have an Audi SQ5 3.0 petrol which is easily the most expensive/ best equipped/fastest... but with age comes grown up kids and a train commute...
My dream car though is an XKR but alas I fear my days to have one may have passed...

Vauxhall Sintra...they were bland boxes!! Had a Jeep Cherokee as a hire car in Gran Canaria last year....was awful. Guy down the road from me has the previous diesel SQ5 and had it nicked not long back but got it back. Saw it on his drive still covered in the coppers fingerprinting dust!! Bloke over the road from me at the last count i think had 11 cars as he does them up to flog etc. Has them in storage somewhere in the main but normally about 5 knocking about on or around his drive. Mainly has an Espace, old land rover defender 90, modern Fiat 500, BMW 5 series GT and an oldish 3 series cabriolet that is under some strange blow up tent thing. However over time i've seen an old Renault 5, a beetle that he has fully restored, Renault Fuego, Renault Avantime, a few other BMW 3 series and 5 series of varying ages and more recently he's picked up a 911 cabriolet in dark green with matching dark green interior!!
Do fancy a big Volvo estate next such as the fancy hybrid V90 or a Jag XF estate, in an ideal lottery winner world i'd love a big RS6 estate...all very swift and perfectly capable of transporting sprog, dog and all that comes with them.

For me it is surprising how tastes and desires change with age. As a kid I liked the cars that I could not afford and now I can afford them, I am not overly bothered by them!
How do you find the Q5? I had a two year break from a BMW and in doing so learnt a lesson, so switched back in March.
This thread needs Ashley to pipe-up about his latest motor, a 2018 Aston Martin DB11 V8 Volante. Who knew hallmarking could be so lucrative!
