I haven't seen the TV series yet but I've seen almost all Shane Meadows' films and for me, the use of inexperienced actors often makes it more believable than some of the over-acting you get in bigger, Hollywood-style productions.

Paddy Considine looks like Gary Oldman, Oldman is the more famous but Considine much the better actor, for me.

paddy considine is a quality actor (not sure hes 'better' than oldman though), some of the this is england cast would struggle to stand out in a small town panto production.

Really? I'd say that the scene in '86 with Lol and her Dad in the front room is one of the most intense, suffocating scenes I've ever seen.

Was a hard scene to watch, indeed.

Dead Man's shoes- Great film, as is anything that Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine have worked on together. Filmed in and around Darley Dale and Riber Castle.

Another good film by Shane Meadows ,starring Paddy C is 'A room for Romeo Brass'. It's also got Andrew Shim and Vicky McClure out of 'This is England' in it. A lot of it was filmed on 'Meadows' estate in Notts.

Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Tyrannosaur is Constentine's Director debut. Brilliant acting and a cracking story.

Is that the one with the bird from Peep show in it? Olivia somebody?

I'm sure I saw it a while a go. Quite subtle and nuanced if memory serves.

I don't know is she was in the peep show. The story is based around a woman who works in a charity shop who is abused by her old man.

Yeah that's the one, Olivia Colman is the woman, plays David Mitchell's on off girlfriend and mother of his child.

Is that the 'mockumentary' one, with the couple of halfwit, budding musos/actors?

I started watching it, but never did, if you know what I'm saying.

Will try again with it if it's recommended.

hard to judge top movies for me.... do you judge best storyline... the one that moved you the most... the one you can watch over and over again?? hmmm....

One that I dont think anyone has mentioned is Casino... some may think not as good as Goodfellas.... but up there for me.

Was feeling to put Notorious in mine too, the scene at the end gets me every time, I could go on YouTube now and watch that scene on its own and I'd be fighting back tears.

1. Life of Brian (best comedy film ever)
2. Alien (ground breaking sci fi / horror set the bar for years, rarely bettered)
3. Unforgiven or any of the spaghetti westerns
4. The Cruel Sea (stiff upper lip Britain at its best)
5. House of the Flying Daggers (martial arts at its best, and beautiful to watch)

But ask me tomorrow and it will probably change to include, Aliens, Watchmen, The Dark Knight, The Maltese Falcon,, Young Frankenstein, Farewell my Lovely, Blade Runner, Master and Commander, Pirates of the Caribbean (first one only), Sense and Sensibility (Emma Thompson version), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, My Fair Lady, Shrek 1 2 and 4, Up, the opening ten minutes of Saving Private Ryan and many, many more.

I love the cinema.

Yeah that's the one. A few folk I know have watched it but didn't really get it. I personally thought it was really funny. I thought Consterdine was brilliant in it.
