Reading the Dobra thread made me think of how many promising town players have left us for a higher level and whose careers have then fizzled out or not fulfilled their promise. The majority I would say.
Of course there have been exceptions, notably Kevin Davies, but his career after leaving us took a long time to get going. Some have done okay - Danny Wilson, Clucas, Morsy, but for ever one these how many did nothing much? For example, what happened to Darikwa or the American born guy whose name I forget? Even the great Alan Birch didn’t have much of a career after leaving us the first time, nor did he do that much on his return, at least in comparison with his superb first spell.
Coming back to Dobra, I hope I’m wrong , but I suspect he could well be one of those whose career fails to take off if he leaves. Might go to somewhere like Derby and then quickly end up at somewhere like Fleetwood.

Caleb Folan burned bright for a few years but didn’t do much after leaving Wigan (in the Prem at the time?) and Hull.

IMO Dobra would be a good L2 player. Doesn’t have the variety or temperament to go higher.

Liam Cooper
Ian Evatt

Wasn’t Darikwa virtually an ever present in the Championship the other year?

Liam Cooper? Who plays for Leeds still? And has in the Prem and Championship as a regular? And for Scotland? Fizzled out is harsh or you have high expectations!

I think he's coming at it from the angle of those who have succeeded at going on to bigger and better things.

Yes I forgot about Cooper. Always seem to forget he played for us but he wasn’t here very long. I will also concede Evatt had a decent career. I suppose as he and Cooper were defenders they didn’t tend to attract the headlines.

There are a few keepers worth a mention
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

Never the twain shall meet.

I think Dobra might achieve L1 but he would have to improve both his game and temperament, although that does seem to be getting better.

Bowery.

Absolutely ludicrous move to Villa under Paul Lambert and now he’s really hit rock bottom.

Cooper was here for 18 months+ (longer if you count his loan spell)

Also, strange that you consider Morsy to have "succeeded" but Darikwa not?!

I'm assuming you're basing your decision purely on the goal-scoring charts?

Given the number of boys who play football through school/youth football etc, how you can class anyone who signed a pro deal at any level (including NL) as not succeeding is baffling!

Is Doyle in the successful list?

Got a move to the Championship where he featured in little over 50 games (most on loan at PNE) then meandered back down the leagues and only really scored a healthy amount of goals at a level lower than where we were when he was with us

Really?

The post can be interpreted as those who made it or those that didn’t. I believed you took it as though they didn’t so no need to get angsty. What’s the problem really? I’m not one who jumps in your every post for a start. Jeez I feel sorry for you.
