Newport County have signed goalkeeper Joe Green on a free transfer until January.

The 19-year-old was a free agent and had been training with Barnsley and Chesterfield.

Following his spell at Chesterfield, Spireites goalkeeping coach and former Wales keeper Mark Crossley recommended Green to Newport manager John Sheridan.

Green has been signed as an understudy to first-choice Joe Day following Rhys Taylor's loan move to Wrexham.

"I've really liked what I've seen. He's six foot, two [inches] and he's got a really good attitude," said Sheridan
