Would you like a nice tin foil hat for Christmas Daz?😃

It’d match most of his clothing 👍

Ok everyone a few week have passed since my original post, I think it is very important that I inform everyone of the “problems” that I have been alerted to and experienced with Facebook.

After I got over the shock of the accusation and allegations I started doing online searches and as a result of my discoveries I decided to contact "Action Fraud" who took some details but not a full description.

The Police Cyber Crime Unit at Butterley hall responded a few days later and I gave them full access to whatever they wanted, they visited my home and took a hell of a lot of information and also many hundreds of files from places I didn’t even know existed.

They have supplied me with a list of “Suspicious Logins” , Their words not mine and when I say a "List" I do not mean 5 or 10, I mean a LOT.
It appears that the “Cyber Criminals” use what is known as Virtual Servers what this means exactly I am afraid I can’t comment as I don’t have a clue, but what I can tell you it does mean is that the Police say they are difficult to locate.

These “Logins” to my account have continued for the whole of the time period that Facebook have records for my account Logins, so as you can imagine it is extremely worrying for me, I don’t know what they have taken from me and I don’t know what they can do to me and what is more I do not know what they have already done to me.

I have also been informed that there is also a system of sending a text message to anyone anywhere and it can be made to appear to have come from anyone, ie You have in your Contacts list “Fred Flintstone” a person with this freely available app can send a text to you from “Fred Flintstone” and it would appear on your phone as if it had come from him, Scary What?

So what does it mean,? You do not have a damn clue whether the person you got a comment from on Facebook actually sent it and if you got a text message from someone it doesn’t mean that they actually sent it, Is it all worth it?

To sum it all up.

On Facebook do not take what you are seeing as fact.

You just do not have a clue whether you are alone

Always, Always, Always check your history of logins and posts etc

On the Login page uncheck the "Auto Remove Recent Logins with FBP" this will then mean you can see logins to your account, if you check it the history is deleted and you will not be able to see if your hacked, UNLESS they login to your account whilst you are still logged in.

Change your password on a regular basis

Use a password manager I use LastPass which was recommended by the Police

DO NOT use a free wi-fi at any public location as a person of disrepute can gain access to your mobile and it’s information and use it against you and to their benefit.

Request Notifications on any and all post’s as then you can see if you actually made the post

REMEMBER on Facebook your account can be copied quite easily and duplicated even down to your picture.

ALWAYS Use 2 factor authentication

Finally DO NOT I repeat DO NOT use auto login on Facebook.

I have been asked “How come you didn’t know?”, I don’t know, but I can assure you I didn’t have a clue, everybody jokes about being hacked, I can guarantee it is no joke, it is extremely worrying indeed, I even shut down my internet when not in use now, my camera is taped over I am also extremely security orientated now to such an extent it is embarrassing, I have changed everything I have even purchased a new router, everything it is possible to change I have changed yet I am still checking everything.

Please note all of the above is what I have gleaned from various places and advice from Action Fraud and the Cyber Crimes Unit

You are referring in there to virtual servers which I think is a vpn or virtual private network. As I understand it using a vpn is a very good tool for protecting you from hackers.

I don't do social media unless you include Bobs Board but it might be good for those who do? Think Town Fan said he used one.

Cyber security is one of the gains of my life at work - partly because we run guest WiFi for people who stay in our hotels. But I also know that social media is a good thing at times and using public networks a godsend especially if you are out and about in London like I am.

So I carry on as normal and run the risk. Just like I have a contactless card, occasionally speed and park illegally. It’s a balance and only you can decide where you sit on the risk - reward spectrum...

Can’t help but think fhat whilst all of what is listed above is possible it’s unlikely to happen the vast majority of users and in the grand scheme of things the most likely way of compromising your account is a weak password or being careless with what you do on Facebook/emails etc.

The normal user is unlikely to be hacked as such.

Paranoia is the winner here.

Change your passwords on a regular basis, and if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is.

Agree with this. Change password on a regular basis or have a very strong password that you aren’t using across other sites etc. Most of the time it will be carelessness that compromises accounts.
