After a first half of FA Cup excitment where Chesterfield matched Ipswich and dealt comfortably with anything they had to offer, the Spireties switched off in the early minutes of the second half; conceding two goals - one a needless penalty - and ended up virtually surrendering the tie as Ipswich, the pressure off them, coasted home. It was a shame because there had been a glimmer that we could have got something from this match. Indeed the 2nd half was full of expectation.

WHAT A LET DOWN!

The second half demonstrated all the limitations of Rico's football. Where in the first half Town tackled and closed down for every ball, from the very beginning of the second half they seemed to give Ipswich the space to move the ball about. Picken's penalty was the beginning of the end. From the moment it was converted Ipswich were on top. The second goal would simply not had happened in the first half but the defense when AWOL as it did for the third.

But there were sparks. Town should have pulled back to 2-1. Kerry with a free header should have buried it and put us back in the game but what transpired was a Sunday League effort straight at the keeper. The same player had a more difficult clear cut chance, this time with his foot, but shot straight at the keeper.

Again, a mid-field with little creativity going forward and Ipswich, who looked vulnerable at times, were never really tested. They dealt comfortably with our runs down the channels. We needed to change it but, of course, under Rico, there is nothing to change it to. When Currie came on it was just more of the same. Most fans after the game agreed Currie should have been on from the start to add that extra experience in mid-field. But when it come to controlling from the middle - not the game plan I hasted to add - Kerry and Winter were simply not good enough.

A game that started with a fizz and ended like of bottle of lemonade that had been left all day with it's top off. FLAT! WE expected more in the second half. After all it's the FA Cup!

A 12,000 + gate added to the disappointment. Ipswich folk, it seems ,don't turn out for the FA Cup.

I think this little trip is the end of the season really. The club will now continue in limbo until the investment rids of this one-dimensional manager and plans for the Championship.

 Decent summary of a game in which we showed much promise in the first half, even Robertson played well. Can't help but think that the penalty decision changed the game but if Kerry had put his first chance away it could have been so different. Instead they hit us on the break and we go 2 down. Kerry's second guilt edged chance needed to go in to get us back into it,but our heads seemed to drop and you don't give Stead a yard of room without paying the penalty. Yes our season is over.
Many a good tune

I wasn't there but that is a characteristic of Richardson's teams. They don't work hard enough and are vulnerable to teams that do work hard. Hard work isn't an alternative to good football - it allows it to happen.

Sums up a LR side perfectly.

I thought Kerry had a good game, and Boden was a different player all together from the one who came on at Dagenham.

Its a shame Chief still isnt here to teach the young lad the `subtleties` of playing up front.
A new hope.
