The usual speel scrutinizing the labour manifesto but so little of the Tory one. Just like Mr Mercury. The difference is Mr M has blue blood you say you don't 🤔

Like Labour the Tories have some interesting views on where the money will come from, and have missed some opportunities to find ways to cut the costs around the NHS and public sector pay. However, unlike Labour they have at least outlined some policies...

    Better?

2029s election should be fun, look at these stats....

    2030
NHS black hole grows as population ages
One of the biggest dilemmas Sir Keir would face heading into his second term is how to afford huge increases in spending to cope with Britain?s ageing population.

Spending on health is projected to have to increase to 10.1pc of national wealth by 2030, up from 8.1pc at present, as pressure on the NHS and social care grows.

Inevitably that means the Labour leader would have to decide whether to further ramp up taxes on working people to pay for the increasing cost of looking after the elderly.

By 2033 it is projected health spending will hit ?278bn up from the current ?182bn, leaving the Labour leader with an almost ?100bn sized black hole to fill

The huge spike in spending will come about as the end of the decade marks a major demographic tipping point for the UK as, for the first time, one in 10 of the population will be over 75.

At the same time the proportion of under 25s will fall to just a quarter, as Britain becomes an increasingly ageing society.

The paradox is that the country is about to elect potentially the worst government in modern times with potentially the biggest majority in modern times.
It?s even starting to unravel before they?ve got the keys to No10.

They will have to go some to beat Boris....who also had a big majority. Are you suggesting the public shouldnt be allowed to choose if they keep choosing these idiots..?

And this is my big sticking point still. ?Well grow the economy?. Just words. How? By when? By how much? Raynor was awful at this last night. Ok shes not Chancellor but shes Deputy Leader and should be able to explain. But then again I?ve heard no one explain it.

Like when Starmer said hell solve the Drs strike by sitting down with them to negotiate. Genius! But he won?t pay them 35%.

    Seriously ABC

as someone said it was clear with Raynor last night that she had some scripts she was allowed to say - which basically said nothing.... and therefore she looked crap. They are clearly entering this election in the knowledge that giving as little away as possible is the bets route...

I'm sure the (main) unions will be more amenable to a beer and sandwiches with a Labour govt, but I dont think the doctors are in that group.

We are also going to have however many new teachers - how, my experience is more are leaving the profession and encouraging new people in is a challenge -so as it stands we will have more kids in state schools and a bunch of vacancies to teach them...

What, like the Tories do at every election? Insisting they are going to lower taxes then do the exact opposite meaning we have the highest tax burden since the 1970's? Yeah OK!

Only if you are a higher earner or a company... https://ifs.org.uk/a...have%20changed.

Amazing to think a Tory govt has presided over that state of affirs, maybe they are the party for the common man...or maybe it Reform, who want to drive up wages by keeping out migrants, improve the NHS for people with less money by encouraging others to pay for their own care...

And Labour want to throw more money at things by taxing education, and finding a magic money tree through growth but they dont say how the growth will come...

    Hi,
Sorry to bother you. I believe you worked for a hotel chain in London and previously had access to discount codes.
It’s a bit of a long shot and very last minute. But could you let me know if this is still the case.
I only ask as my part is due to go to London on Friday and the hotel she was booked into has canceled last minute.
    Thanks
    Andy ...

Thanks for the invite - would have loved to have joined you but I am moving house tomorrow so day not in the office or in London!
Might have joined as the political conversations might have been more up my street than most on the board!

If you live in London, you're welcome to join a couple of Spireites tomorrow (Monday) evening where the main topic of conversation will be Chesterfield FC amongst other things. All very friendly. We'll be in the Williamson Tavern near St Pauls about 7.30. Sorry for the short notice.
    regards
    John
