been watching the masters this week. now 1st and foremost i'm a football fan but town aside i find football a bit tedious in that generally speakin the same few teams tend to win trophies time and again, love tennis but similar, snooker on the other hand throws up high quality contests in which anyone of around 12 or so could potentially win; shelving aside for now the allegations on the banned players, anyone of the following could win a major title;

o'sullivan, robertson, selby, trump, murphy, higgins, k. wilsonn, allen, ding, bingham, hawkins, lesouwski (needs a big win), maguire, williams,

The massive increase in tournaments has benefitted some players who have improved simply by playing more matches, as well as some of the bigger names not playing in the smaller tournaments as the number of ranking points on offer doesn't appeal to them.

Dings academy in Sheffield was a bit of a ghost town last week apparently, as most of the Chinese players suspended for match fixing (and their mates/practice partners) have all returned to China (and most probably won't return irrelevant of their hearing outcomes).

Oh, I LOVE the snooker. I've got a VIP ticket for the World Championship final at The Crucible. Trouble is ...... none of my friends feel the love quite so much. To be fair, you could probably get a couple of weeks abroad for the price of the ticket.

Not to worry. I love it. And I'll just have to dine alone 🤣🙂

what do you make of the shoot out? must admit i've pretty much watched every game today... some say it shouldn't be a ranking event but i dunno i think it should be it's a different style of play and if you're able to adapt to it and win then it's valid surely, bit like saying that T20 isn't as valid a format of cricket as test cricket

I think it's great. I do prefer the more usual format. But then I think T20 is great. But I MUCH prefer test cricket :)

I love it, the top Pros don't like it as it gives the lower ranked players a higher chance of winning etc

It gives the lower ranking players (like Chesterfield-based Adam Duffy who knocked out Jimmy White) the chance to get some decent prize money and get some serious ranking points, as well as some media coverage too.

Great to see Rob Milkins lift the Welsh Open on Saturday and doing so earning himself over £300k in prize money, tour money and guaranteed earnings from future comps.

genuine life-changing money to a seasoned pro who's had his issues off the table and struggled to make a living on it.

seems like vafaei scored a massive on goal with his antics over the o'sullivan match, he played so well to beat Ding but then got himself cuaght up in a soap opera with the media and took a heavy beating, one to learn from i'd say.

back to back ranking wins, 7 days and 5,500+ miles apart is a massive achievement

Ding has done well to climb back up the rankings after struggling to compete through Covid, but Ronnie is just something else.

To still be performing at the very top level, after all these years is nothing short of phenomenal and puts him amongst the very top level sports stars this country has ever produced.

just watching the snooker shoot out tournament, i reckon football could take an aspect of this format and employ a 10 second countdown with beeper on last 5 seconds for throw ins, that might speed a few up

One of but not the greatest.
In terms of snooker he’s not even that far ahead of Hendry! In fact behind in a few categories still….,,

^ he’s still 7 world titles behind our very own Joe Davis

More major titles, more 147s, more Triple Crowns and equal numbers of Worlds (so far). more centuries, not sure in what ways he's behind Hendry?

That said, the standard down the ranking is far higher than it used to be too, and Hendrys time at the top was far shorter than Ronnie is.

Joe Davis dominated at a time where there were probably less than 20 players capable of even giving him half a challenge.

Like most sports now (inc. football/athletics etc), modern players would absolutely wipe the floor against opposition from 50+ years ago and snooker is no different.

ROS showing real champion quality in last 2 weeks, trailing in 2 finals and finding a way to win both, his performance against ding in the semi was as good as it gets but today against trump he found a different way to win.
