Village football comes to town tomorrow as the Stags entertain the mighty Histon, combined population with neighbouring Impington where they play 8,540.

Proud to boast of 6 pubs and a Nursery, Infants, Junior and Secondary school.

And the Red Lion is superb - Everards Tiger is spot on there - it's one of the ones by the pond.

BTW Graham Eales from Holmewood is Commercial Manager at Histon

Happy coincidence: both us and Mansfailed are playing teams tonight whose names end in "ston." There, however, the similarity ends. :)

Reached? They finished just one place (though 9 points) off the play-offs last season (their first) with a squad comprising mainly journeymen from local Cambridgeshire football (Cambridge City and the like). An astounding rise give the number of ex-league clubs they have to compete with these days. They didn't perform well on Saturday apparently but fought back to draw against Torquay - they have a very good record against former league teams.

They have the second smallest ground in the conference with a capacity of 3250. Only Lewes is smaller with the charmingly named "The Dripping Pan" ground holding only 3000. Ah the romance of non-league football!

PS The Stags are being cautious ahead of tonights game. Their site announces Happy Hour will be held in the club bar from 6 to 7. Not after the game then...? :-)

Manfield Vs Histon
Chesterfield Vs Preston North End

sorry to pick a fault there Stu.

The thing that Histon, Preston and Chesterfield have in common is that they all have a football club. Mansfield have never had a football club.

Couldn't resist that dig either.

What I find hilarious is that the Mansfield site refers to the Histon match as "historic" . Historic in the sense that this is first time they have played a former pub team in a competitive match as a non-league side or historic in the sense that they have never had to put such a brave face on the start of a season before isn't made clear.

No match preview but there is a helpful preview of the match programme! The new owners haven't been involved in football for long have they? lol

Just logged on to see if you all still love us that much to have threads dedicated to us still and I wasn't disappointed.
I love you too Spireites, the gap between our leagues will never ever shred the bond we share.

BTW we're doing fine now and like I said a month ago things are looking up... Didn't believe me then? You'd better believe it now! This club is on the up.
Who's that tw*t in cowboy hat? Haslam! Haslam!

You've obviously tried to be funny there but we were at rock bottom when nearing the end of the Haslam era. So yes, the only way is up I suppose. How much we can go up is yet to be seen, hope to be able to compete with you again one day which we haven't been able to do in a while.
