Freckleton in midfield omg.I wouldn't have him in defence. We can and must do better than him. His performance against Kiddie tells us all we need to know.

Correct. If we go into L2 putting square pegs in round holes we will get found out very quickly.

There’s fine margins in this league, only have to look at Notts County. One of top scorers in league, player of the season in Jodi Jones, sitting in the bottom half because they didn’t strengthen the defence. If we did the same, we’d be a similar situation which would be a real waste of the momentum and support we have.

I think we will go out and get 2/3 defenders and someone to play alongside Naylor but if we don’t we will won’t anywhere near top half

We need an entire new defence (inc keeper), a new CM and a quick attacker at the very least.

Doubt we’ll get that but we’ll probably not play such an open game next season which will help a bit. Sadly we are all aware that disaster can strike at any time with our defence.

I know Cookie likes his current formation, but since it involves two wing backs playing in front of only two central defenders it won't wash a division higher. It was only just adequate this time because we scored so many.
He's either got to rein in the attacking full backs or go with three central defenders. Since he likes to be all gung-ho he might well play with the three central in defence, which raises the interesting prospect of Loz coming back. It also gives the midfielders more licence to attack, so a replacement Mike Jones might not be vital.

I seem to recall winning the league two title playing this formation under Cook and reaching league one play-offs.

Some people on here need to get a grip, we won this league comfortably and am not surprised the players maybe don't challenge for 50/50 balls like they were or putting in the same shift. To some degree it is a bit disappointing but the priority was getting out of this league and that box has been ticked.

Next season i've no doubt we will play the same formation but i would be surprised if we push up as high as we have done in most games. In the FA Cup games versus Portsmouth and Orient we were less Gung Ho and expect the more reserved approach next year. There was an interesting discussion on talk sport (unusual I know) talking about Spurs and their high line and the point made was you can play that style when you have the best players in the league (as Postecoglu had in his previous teams, but not at Spurs) and I thought yes, that was us this season.

As always I will watch close / pre-season with interest and see how we are fixed after 10 games or so.

Sure he’s won both league two and league one playing that formation

I don't think for a minute that he'll play the same way in league 2 as he does now. If he does we're sitting ducks. With everybody at the top of their game it'll still be dubious, and, as we've seen lately, a small drop off in standards and the likes of Kidderminster and Wealdstone can run us ragged.
It's going to be very interesting to see just who comes in, which should tell us next seasons approach. Whatever, if we ship 60 goals next season we'll be lucky to stay in the League

Like MK Dons, Crewe and Crawley who sit in the play off positions and Donnie, just outside them?

There's no way that Cook will change his formation, we will change how we play that set up, and he's already stated that it will be a more rigid 1st 11 next season..
all we are saying, is give us ...a goal, or 2+

Think it’s safe to say the below and 100% + increase in revenue funding from the EFL will help to strengthen….

Released Out ➡️ King, Palmer, Clements, Banks, Curtis, Freckleton
Loaned out ➡️ Quigley, Cook,

Creates a lot of room for a new CB RB return to HT (GK) LB and CM

Under your scenario, Grigg would be the only available specialist CF next season?

Yeah, probably should of expanded on my post a little - we need all of the above to be competing at the top end of the table. We can get a comfortable midtable berth with less, but definitely need minimum 3 new defenders (with some of the current squad leaving) otherwise we'll be in trouble. You're right that we won't play as attacking a style too which will help, but will be useless without some real EFL quality added too.

Ruthlessness by Cook is needed unfortunately.
What sits a little better with me us that those told they are surplus to requirements should easily be snapped up on the back of this season

I'm sure Sheff United would be impressed when we release Freckleton seeing as he's on loan from them!

Well he was picked out on a poor game v Kiddy so i gave one example of a good performance against much better opposition. Personally i thought he started very well when he first came in at left back and then as mentioned did very well v Watford at centre back.
