I always knew deep down it wasn't him. Thanks for confirming it mate. He was known at work as Billy Liar. It's bugged me for over 25 years lol.

And King Ern had a perfectly good goal disallowed minutes before they scored. And still it goes on .
Oh and I think Phil Tingay made his debut 3 or 4 days earlier at Eastville.
The Villa game had been postponed earlier in the year thus the rearranged fixture. We found out of the postponement just as we were setting off, so had a bus trip round a few derbyshire hostelries. Unfortunately one of our mob was working in Manchester and went direct with a view of returning on the coach. He got a taxi from New Street as he paid the taxi driver at Villa Park the taxi driver said as he drove away "I don't know why you've come here, the games off" leaving him with only enough cash to get in the none game. RIP Trev

I sat in W7 a few times last season and there are a few characters from the past that sit in there that you still wouldn’t want to mess with them

OMG mate. The poor lad. If it wasn't so tragic it would have been funny.

More than 39,000. Attendance was 45,567. Villa received the 3rd Division Champions trophy. Ian Ross chipped Tingay. You're right he made his debut the game before at Bristol Rovers. It was a Friday night and I think the Cup Final was the next day. From memory I went on the Tube Works bus who ran a coach to every away game.
Team (checked in Rothmans): Tingay, Holmes, Tiler, Bell, Stott, Phelan, Wilson, McHale, Archer, Moss, Randall (his penultimate game for Town). Bruce Rioch played for them.

And what a Chesterfield team that was. They more than held their own for many seasons in that old third division after being promoted in 1970 didn't they? You didn't happen to work at the Tube Works around that time by any chance did you Bobby?

Well if you were to compare those two occurrences to an Olympic javelin event the Spireite fan would have won gold while the Solihull or should I say Villa fan wouldn't have got anywhere near the podium.
