Karl - you should've come over and told me to get behind the lads or shut up.

Then i'd have laughed and told you how twee such a statement sounds.

By the way: what do we do in training? 'Cos on the repeated evidence of our set pieces we definitely don't practice them. Good grief - even our throw in's were pretty clueless in the first half!

And another thing: if you're so intent on everyone getting behind the team, why weren't you stood up trying to motivate?

Is it a case of "Do what i say, not what i do"?

Ha Ha - Might have know it was you :D Should have guessed really :P Your support is as negative as your posts!

I usually stand in the kop behind the goal singing my head off!! But for the stags game I paid for my lad to be one of the mascots for part of his Christmas box. I was quite muted (for me :P ) but still was tad fanatic shouting for the lads and I appoligised to a little girl who was sat infront of me who kept steering at me, she must have thought I was nuts :P It's called 'PASSION' and you sound as you have it to in abundance too, but it's how you channel it! Mine is postive and encourages the players yours got right on mine and other peoples wick that sat around me so MUST have the same effect on the players that could hear you!
I will be back in my usual spot on new years day - You will know who I am because I'm the one who shouts louder than the drum in SUPPORT of MY TEAM ;)

I wish people would stop " banging " on about the drum. :D

Personally I do like it and I believe it does generate a much needed atmosphere.
dtr36 keep up the good work.

Agreed.

2 wins and 2 clean sheets so let's start moaning about the drum again...

I've been rather disappointed with the singing on the Kop this season... I've only been able to get to a few games this season but when i have been the singing has been pretty poor. When we do sing the atmosphere is electric and can't be beaten... but when we don't there's a deathly hush which has to affect the players.

What bugs me is the way our fans would rather have a go at the other fans instead of getting behind the Spireites. We'd rather sing that daft Addams family song instead of "we all follow the spireites..." for example. I'd like to hear more of that, that's for sure. I'd also like to hear all the old songs that i can remember as a kid, like "we'll keep the blue flag flying high" not daft rubbish like "oh i do like to be beside the seaside..."

Something else which annoys me is the way we sing a song through twice and let it go... I'd like to hear it sung through until you get a sore throat, that's what gets the atmosphere high and the players going... a solid wall of noise that's in support of the blue boys =) for example the clap clap clap etc that ends in SPIREITES!! I'm sure you know what I mean, the guy with the drum starts it off... keep it going, don't stop after two goes.

I've had to endure a couple of trips to the Walkers Stadium this season, and even though they're absolutly shocking on the pitch, the fans keep going throughout the match.

So lets get behind the Spireites, for every second of the 90 mins, not the couple of mins after we score.

Song Sheets! Conductors! Oh great, that'd come across as forced as the current drum scenario. The whole point is that these things are NOT organised or pre-planned. The match atmosphere should always be spontaneous. We have a range of songs/chants, but they get strangled by the drum, and the limited repertoire it provides. Most of us will sing and chant, but we aren't interested in self-promotion, trying to curry favour or stand out from the rest of the supporters.

We have always had songs/chants, and they've always been heard, even in the bad old days -remember the gallows humour of "Proud to be a Spireite even though we lost 10-0" during the Randall era? The atmosphere never got so bad that we needed artificial stimulae to revive it. Basically one day one person has arbitrarily decided that we all need an atmosphere creating. Personally i think we didn't need this artificiality, and that it is born more of a persons need for attention/celebrity. If i'm wrong and this person has the purest motives, then i feel he's misguided, and perhaps slightly arrogant in making his arbirtary decision on all our behalfs.

I somehow get the feeling some folk have figured out who i am by my feelings on this topic?

Karl
My support as negative as my posts?

How predictably blinkered.

But you're right about my passion for Chesterfield FC by the way, as anyone that knows me would surely testify to. You see i've also done my time on the Kop, sometimes leading the chants, but maybe now i look at the bigger picture and realise that you can shout yourself hoarse in support of the players yet you're wasting your breath if the inadequacies of those running the Club are ultimately holding it back. That first half on Saturday was dire; our set pieces do seem clueless; we were struggling against a side that were bottom of the league: so why not remind a manager that'd delivered only two home wins all season of the fact? And whilst i defy you to mention a single derogatory comment hurled by myself at anyone in blue and white on the pitch, you obviously overlooked my comments aimed at Boulding ("Tha' should've stuck to tennis, lad" [alluding to his earlier career]), Hamshaw as he took a corner and recieved a chorus of "scab" chants ("Yeah, and tha' played for Wednesday!" - after the appropriate gap for comedic effect, of course) and some other Staggie taking a throw-in just below my seat ("Ayup mate, good luck against Matlock"). PS: who was that bloke in the Stone Island gear going absolutely barmy when we scored? Guilty as charged, your 'onour.

So i guess what i'm somewhat longwindedly trying to say Karl, is that instead of merely offering blind support - as seems to be the case with yourself - i do try to applaud whenever possible but will also critisise when the need arises.

It's called being a normal, passionate football fan.

Chris,

With you having one mouth in the Boardroom ;-), what's the story with Lester, is he going or staying? I've been told we've not received a single enquiry, yet Wizz on Rivals reckons we've had a couple of serious ones.

Dunno about any mouth in the Boardroom mate, but i've only heard what others have: Tranmere have offered between £900K and £1.2M. Depending on which Director the quote allegedly comes from, of course.

I honestly think it's twaddle, if i'm honest. After all, where would TRFC get that sort of wad from; if they had it wouldn't they be better off signing two or three younger, perhaps Premiership reserve players with it; why would Lester want to travel from Nottingham to Merseyside every day - especially when he's on good money (plus bonuses), a three year contract, close to his family, loved by the fans and able to enjoy his football here?

Nah, the only outfit i could see him moving to is possibly Doncaster Rovers. Why? Well, their Chairman has the ambition and cash to back it up with, he could be seen as doing a similar job to the one he's doing at Town at Donny and it wouldn't be that much of an upheaval for him to travel there.

Not that i'm trying to pass on any hints, though.
