Why are you finding it so impossible to simply admit Sunak lied, Ian...

Because I know how the real world works with what constitutes the decision - a decision is not formally made until signed off by those who can make it. Its being economical to say the decision hasnt been agreed in principle - but its not a lie to say it has not been made.

Surely being a Union man you are used to proposals being put forward and debated and the show of hands to make the decision - even when a few million have been cast by their union leaders ahead of time and the decision was known, still not formally adopted until the vote....
But if the boot was on the other foot and we were talking about a union misleading members and a decision being made but not ratified, you;d understand the need for ratification then, you are just points scoring on a pedantic point which is a bit silly when the govt is completely Bunkum, there are much bigger things to focus on. Sweat the big stuff, not the irrelevant crap that could apply to both sides...

Apparently the brand new money that has been transferred from the HS2 project will now go to the development of brand new transport plans including brand new ways for the public to commute to and between the 40 brand new hospitals that were built with the brand new £350 million pounds that went to the NHS as a direct result of Brexit.

Think that about sums it up.

If there anctually anything saved from scrapping HS2 it’ll go into pre-election tax cuts for the richest in society.

The final decision on scrapping HS2 will be placed before Parliament, a result far from guaranteed given many government MP's are far from happy.

Especially as we learn huge amounts of private funding is still needed to complete the Seven Oaks to Euston stage: https://www.theguard...private-funding

Though of course how much of the estate needed for the project will be left by then is anyone's guess...

Don't know if this has been mentioned but Sunak is salting the earth over the Northern leg with land and property sales.
What a country we have become.

Its not anti union, it was actually saying you only see what you see because its a Tory thing, you'd interpret it differently if it suited you. Just like a Tory leader would, or a Union leader.

You need to have equal cynicism for both sides.

PS no comments on the Labour conference voting to see through HS2, so presumably Labour see the spend as good value? Mind they seemed to be spending on everything according to Rachel Reeves - lets not worry that borrowing is higher than its ever been and interest rates are clearly only going up, looking at the bond markets govt borrowing costs will be getting higher and higher. Wonder who is paying for it all???

That was not anti union, what I said that anyone in power would use the english language to suit their needs - which is all Sunak did. Politicians and business leaders do it the world over, even middle managers (copyright, Bobby Darling) do it to avoid difficult questions they arent at liberty to answer yet.

We'll see if their world still exists if Labour get power.... arent they already talking about giving unions more power..? I prefer the German approach where the unions and management work together...
