Blimey, another longstanding Chesterfield business gone overnight, gotta feel for the staff.

wow, was a customer of theirs (Worksop and Chesterfield) back in the day when the kids were little. Sakes were buoyant in the pandemic but I imagine the cost of living crisis has damaged confidence in dropping £15k / £20k / £25k on a mobile home only used 30 days / nights a year....
Interesting that the Worksop operation has been bought....maybe the chesterfield site has other value to the administrators?

Similarly Kimberley Caravans closed their Chesterfield branch last October only two years after opening. Another Covid boom and bust example?

Robinsons have been on that site for at least 20 years, maybe 30 so not really a pandemic boom and bust... But like the desire to move to the country, work from home, etc etc, I imagine the market for what are for most expensive luxuries has slumped. Plus if they have increased in price like cars, they are now beyond normal people.
Camper vans seem to have done OK though, although I am watching the stock of the one that has moved in near me. They do sales and hire, so can only look how the sales side does.

It’ll be prime housing estate land I’d imagine, with access off Pondwell or Birch Kiln if not off Ringwood Road.

We are losing the high streets in town centres daily.
This country needs a change of direction when it comes to supporting independent high street retailers.
Hopefully when Mr Sunak and his chums vacate the office we can get someone in who will realise that town centres are the heartbeat of communities.
However, I won’t hold my breath.
The council need to put incentives in place to get folks spending in the town, yes coffee shops etc may be doing alright but what about people that take a punt on setting up a business that battles against the internet etc?
This is where the government of the day needs to stack the cards in favour of these retailers and encourage people to visit them.
If we lose our high streets we may as well become hermits..

Unfortunately with MacAthur Glen and Meadowhall within a relatively short distance and online returns easier than ever, our high streets and town centres will continue to die on there hrse, add in the parking charges as well its no surprise, until councils (not just CBC) realise that with out shops there's no need for parking and without parking no need for shops, and sets rates to entice folk and business back then its done...

Bang on pal..
How intelligent are these councillors?
Can’t they realise that our town is on its backside?
Or are they just money grabbing pen pushers?
Like you say, no visitors,no parking income, no brass to the town…

Sad but high streets and town centres have done, u less you want to open a barbers shop, and that’s another argument!

Its a pretty big site, there is the showroom you can see from the road, the workshop to the left next to the houses, and then sales pitch and storage for 30 or more caravans and manoeuvring space. Access is the issue as the main entrance isnt great, especially with a huge caravan on the back! You do have retail at the back of the jet station so pretty sure some form or retail would be allowed. But new houses would be where the money is and with the pressure to build more on brown field sites there would be pressure to approve. Of course we dont know who owns the site...

Brown field sites seem to have taken a back seat with planning up here these days. Brimington, Inkersall, Dunston, Calow and down Derby Road areas have all had large green fields built on recently, or are about to have houses built on them. Where are all the people coming from who buy these houses?
