I know it's not rocket science, but well done Barrie Hubbard.
Interesting to note that he said he's spoken more with Jack over the last 2 weeks than he has done in the 2 years that he's been at the Club. Perhaps Jack was briefing the Board on Calderwood?

It's only good news if he's actually signed a contract extension, bad if he hasn't

Well done to that poor manager for actually signing him in the first place.

Depends what other (Ahem) offers he has.
Jacks goals will be an important cog in the machine of getting us promoted and staying in League 1, this signals boards and JS's recognition of this.
At his age though, he might be looking for a bit longer deal to see him through to retirement. I would hope there might be an option for a further year on the extension, subject to certain conditions obviously.

The 33-year-old, who has scored 50 goals in the last two seasons with the Spireites, still has one year left on his current deal.
"I think there'll be some news on that [Lester's contract] next week," Hubbard told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"John [Sheridan] knows Jack, and obviously he'll sit down with him and get something sorted."
This will be the icing on the cake for me.

I'll start getting really excited when the next Jamie Ward arrives - i.e young raw talent. If we are serious about progressing to the Championship in 5 years then we have to see a youngsters join the club who will be maturing as the core of a quality side in 3-4 years time. Montrose is in that mould Too little too late for Rico but he, rather than Lester may ultimately be Richardson's legacy to the club.

Richardson had his areas of weakness but scoring goals and getting a decent return out of Jack wasn't his downfall. The disappointing aspect was that we failed to get promoted with someone of JL's ability but I can't imagine any other manager getting much more out of Jack in the last 2 seasons.

Could be. After all our best spell of the season was upon the arrival of Montrose and ended when he got injured.
But yes we were really lacking in pace upfront when Ward left, although we hoofed the ball up to Ward too often we lacked pace on breakaways once he'd gone.
