There were seven goals in the last Anfield match before Chesterfield arrived there in 1992; Liverpool got six of them.

Perhaps that is why Dave Lancaster didn't expect to share eight goals equally!

"Supper provided" - That should be enough to get Jan Molby to turn up.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

I was on holiday in Lloret when the draw was made and i remember going mental when i saw who we'd got. Myself and Jim Walker (the Town fans who travel on the Bridge Inn buses will probably know who i mean) were 17 at the time and we wagged off school for the afternoon in order to be able to go, and spent most of it in the Racecourse on Whitt Moor before getting on their bus to Anfield. Consequently we were pretty well lubricated by the time we got there so the memories are quite hard to come by. I don't recall any trouble outside the ground, just a great feeling of pride of how we played and really took it to them in front of one of the loudest Town followings i've ever been part of.

To be fair, i don't think many Liverpool fans will look back on that side and think it was one of their best but they still had some good players. McManaman, Mark Wright, David James (although Grob was back for the 2nd leg), Jamie Redknapp and a few others.

I took my new wife to the match but our bus arrived late. After a walk across Stanley park we arrived at the turnstiles and asked a copper who scored as we heard cheering from inside. He said Chesterfield had and my wife replied "yeah right" or words to that effect which nearly got us arrested. We finally got inside but at half time she wanted me to wait for her outside the toilets so being a hero, I did. Town scored while I was waiting. So, out of our 4 goals I saw 2.
I've never forgiven her.
The walk back to the coach across Stanley park was "interesting" as the Liverpool fans seemed upset for some reason.

I was 14 too! Luckily I had a more delinquent dad who thought sod the homework and took me and my elder brother along (luckily it hasn't held back my education and career since :)). For a 14 year old, who a few years previously had held a soft spot for Liverpool, it was a great experience to visit Anfield and see town go 3-0 up. Cracking game and cracking atmosphere.

Ha! Classmate ! I don't think I missed any school and to get there persuaded me Mum to go to her first ever football match, and what a match it was ! She was soo pleased to see me lose it and dance around the steps hugging strangers in celebrating Bomber Lancaster's goal at our end !

Only to be beaten by 13.4.97 !
