I’ve no problem with an inexpensive gamble whatsoever, but this 22 man squad size concerns me. Bailey Hobson is 21 so not sure if he might not count? If he does count as part of the 22 then he’d be a big no from me if we want to do anything next season. Nothing against him but space doesn’t allow it. Drummond is 24 so he’d definitely be part of the 22.

Of course the 22 man limit is on players eligible to play, not players in the squad. So, should a player have a long term injury, or have hit rock bottom form, he will be omitted, no doubt the latter offered out on loan to gain match experience elsewhere.

Wrexham named a 21 man squad for the second half of the season, with either of two available players on the books having the chance to fill the last place subject to fitness and form.

I noticed Chey Dunkley’s name pop up a few times on this thread. I know quite a few people close to Shrewsbury FC and the word is he’s very close to agreeing a 2 year extension there!!!

He is a tidy footballer and has some pace. Seen him play on the right and more centrally as a striker. Not sure he is capable of scoring the goals that Berry scored for us from deep positions. All Macclesfield games are on YouTube so you can watch him if you have the patience. Plenty of noise about him but is is hard to imagine him plying his trade two full leagues above the one we will be in next season. I always find it hard to judge players at different levels but I think it would definitely a speculative signing. I wouldn’t see him or Berry as being particularity cheap options considering the risk.

I've only seen a couple of clips of him playing for Macclesfield so I wouldn't want to judge him on those, but he looks to have potential. At 24 years old, is it, I'm not sure if you can term him as one for the future.
I heard a strange one last night, and that was, we're keeping King as back-up to Mandeville in his midfielder role. After falling off the steps I was on, I realised it wasn't April Fools Day 🤔. This bloke isn't a supporter of Town so I took it with a pinch of salt. King could probably do a job there but if he's not in favour at full back, then I can't see him staying.

If true, from King's point of view, it would be an offer to continue his time here under some sort of capacity. He'd fall in to the multi roll player category.
It would also be another season of job security and he could always request going out on loan if he felt he needed more first team action.
So, if true IMO it would be a no brainer for King and l personally wouldn't mind him sticking around.

It’s not a case of naming 22 before a deadline and having to stick with that until January? Are you saying that if someone gets a bad injury in October bringing the squad down to 21 another one can be added if he is already registered?

I thought the limit was window to window to be honest.

The thing that worries me is that when I watch Macclesfield clips it looks so much better than watching Matlock. It could be said they should as they’ve accumulated far more points, but then again Matlock is the standard Macclesfield play week in week out.

If you’re right and I’ve no reason to doubt you then that isnt a 22 man squad then, it’s just the same as picking a match day squad. Week to week? Surely not 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’d do a little sex wee, that would probably be bigger than any of Grigg, Naylor or Jacobs last year.

No. Sorry, wrong use of ‘squad’ in this case.
You have two chances to name your 22 man squad, one at the beginning of the season, one in the middle.
Nothing to stop you having 24 eligible players say, with 2 being left out when the squad names are reported to the EFL.
Or, as Wrexham did, name 21 and have the option of choosing which one makes the final squad later down the line.

I’m afraid I misinterpreted his post, he’s clarified it below (above)

It would be a poorly managed squad to have 24 on you books when you are allowed 22 so I don’t see the point he was making

Just lazy linking us to him where is he playing? Doesn’t fit our age profile.

As a club in league two you aren’t going to get a complete player the finished article it will involve us taking potential and developing them.
