The declaration wasn’t a bad idea….no balls and various missed chances were more of an issue. Yes root was in but we were 8 down with one tailender in and one more to come. It could very easily have been innings done within a couple of balls anyway.

It could and should have been an extra 30 vital runs! Very poor and ultimately potentially decision to have 4 overs against them imho.

It could have been 1 wicket or more in that spell as well. No one has complained when the declarations have led to big wins in places like Pakistan.

The other side to it all is that even with the declaration we had them 8 down needing 54 to win with Cummins and Lyon in...Cummins is normally a number 8 and Lyon a number 10. They've scored over 50 for the 9th wicket and rode their luck a bit at times to get there. Another day they are knocked over in a few balls and we win comfortably.

Ridiculous decision to declare after batting first compounded by Bairstows poor wicketkeeping and his poor second innings shot selection to get out along with Roots totally unnecessary charge down the wicket to Lyon second innings cost us a match we threw away and should have won.

What a t20 match at the Kia Oval last night
Bottom of the South Group Middlesex chased down top teams Surreys 252 reaching 254 for the loss of only 3 wickets
I would have liked a bet on them reaching that target at the halfway stage lol

Middlesex lost 14 on the bounce before chasing that down.

England staring down the barrel of defeat v Afghanistan which would leave a small mountain to climb to make the semis!

Under serious pressure. I thought the bowling in particular from Woakes and Curran was utter dog Bunkum.

Still a very manageable target at the start though!

Livingstone is living on the hype of a few big hits and the fact he bowls “spin”.

Which will be the bigger shock, England losing to the Afghans or The Saffies losing to the Dutch?

Hmmm, the previously imperious New Zealand struggling against the Afghans, maybe they're better than minnows?

Afghanistan are always going to be a tricky opponent in conditions that favour them and their spinners which is their strong suit. Mujeeb and Khan are top quality spinners and proved that in franchise cricket around the world. It was always likely they would give a good account of themselves in this world cup although England were pants against them which didnt help. Losing to Holland is a much bigger mess up and makes us v Sth Africa on Saturday a very interesting game all of a sudden.

That said this 10 team format with everyone in one table is going to make for a dull spell of games at some point i'd have thought. Dragging things on and potentially a fair number of dead games when only top four are qualifying.

Absolutely mystifying decision by the Afghans to chase a target rather than set NZ one and put pressure on them.

the aussies just refuse to go away don't they, mentality monsters, i thought they were gone early tournament but they have that champions mentality of not knowing when they are beaten, england need to rediscover this, hear stokes is ready to take the field, doubt he'll be bowling but he is one of those players whose presence alone adds % to the cause.
