International Caution hhmmmmm

Now if we try and dissect what we have to go on I get the following. The comment from Rico, I didnt hear it myself by the way, says that "if we pull it off, it will be the most exciting Chesterfield signing ever". This leads me to believe it is a well known player. I also think we can count out any younger Internationals because teams a lot higher than us will be after those.
Therefore it`s probably an older International comming to the end of his career, and he`s talking to us due to lack of interest from clubs higher up. Now I initially ruled out a player comming here for a last big pay day because I can`t for the life of me see Bazza and co sanctioning silly wages again, but as the Evatt money and season ticket sales given us more spending power. Due to our still large debt I don`t think it really has.
So like most of you on here I am completely clueless to who it may be.
Call me boring but at present I would much rather at this time put the Chesterfield site on my PC and be greeted with..
"Sammy Spireite...Clingan signs for 3 years".. or
"Full Year Fulop...Spurs stopper on loan for next season"...
rather than growing speculation about an International whoever that may be.
One thing that is really comming to the fore in the Roy Macfarland reign is the immense team spirit at the club, this can be noted by comments Hall made regarding joing, Bailly on resigning a new contract, Evatt in his leaving message and also the Chief and Shinners atitudes. I would hate this to be spoiled by a "maverick signing" that proves to be a wrong move..
Any way I trust Roy and Rico with any new signing but lets not get carried away.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I've always maintained that if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Such wild speculation abounded in the Dark Brown days, and the thought of us pulling off unlikely deals still sends a shiver down my spine.
Our strengths lie in our collective will to succeed against all odds. The thought of us making signings in the 'major coup' category seem completely out of step with the stark reality of our true position. Evatt money, record season ticket sales (possibly hundreds of which have been given away) or otherwise, we ALL need to keep our feet firmly on the ground. Big names come with big ego's and such things could easily upset the apple cart.

On the other hand, if it's someone who can stroll around at the back making all the young 'uns do the business, and making them stand in the right positions when defending set pieces, then maybe he would be worth his wages many times over.
I personally thought it might be someone like Colin Cooper, but I don't think he is away on international duty at the moment.

Older player (generally) = more time out injured
Older international = definitely more time out injured
For what its worth. Scott Gemmill...?

With him saying it will be the most exciting player we have bought, I agree with you saying that it could be an older international
Maybe Bosnich.. But he isnt an international.. so it cant be him
Best post ever that one! you really have changed a few others ideas on who it could be

Exactly. There must be one or two old pros in the Premiership who are past their sell-by date at that level but have still got plenty to offer us, if only along the lines of putting their foot on the ball and running the midfield at their pace. And a couple more years in the game as a big fish in a little pool must look pretty attractive as an alternative to joining the rat-race. Chuck in the respect that MacF obviously enjoys in the game and we could be looking at a big one. Fingers crossed.

Patrick Berger is a 31 year old Czech International who has just signed for a top 8 Premiership club....
My point is that whilst its an exciting prospect whoever we are in the running to sign, lets not kid ourselves that itds going to be a player in his best playing years, or indeed a player who can still cut it at Premiership level... would also be interesting to see what kind of wage he was on at his most recent employees, and what we are prepared to offer.....
