Following on from another successful season of the Bob?s Board Prediction League, and to keep your prediction skills in top shape over the summer there will be a Bob?s Board (Benno Spire approved) Euro24 prediction competition.

Full rules for the competition are included here - please have a read-through (its a long one) and post-up any queries you may have.

In a nutshell, its a three-parter ? competition entry is by making Qualification phase predictions that guarantee you get into the ?head-to-head? prediction matches during the Group phase, and from there the ?business-end? that is the Knockout phase where you will compete either to be overall Trophy champion or winner of the Plate competition.

If you want to bid for prediction-guru glory on the international stage, look out for the Qualification phase predictions (to be published Sunday 19th May) that will signal the real start of Euro24!

Bob?s Board European Championships 2024 (Euro24) Prediction Competition Rules

The competition involves players making Euro24-based predictions over 3 phases:

The Qualification phase
The Group phase
The Knockout phase.

The Qualification phase:
Qualification is very easy, is guaranteed, and is the only method of entry to the competition.

All a player needs to do is make Qualification predictions from a list provided before the Euro24 tournament begins.

Make and submit your predictions and you automatically qualify for the Euro24 Group phase ? it really is that simple.

Of course, those predictions will not be wasted. They will come into play in the Knockout phase, allowing you to boost your prediction points score in your quest to be a prediction winner.

The Group phase:

With your Qualification predictions submitted, you will be allocated a place in one of the prediction groups, ready for some ?head-to-head? prediction matches.

Each group will have 4 players.
Each player will play a total of 3 rounds of ?head-to-head? prediction matches in their group.

You will be keen to learn who is in your group and, as expected for an elite-level competition, this will be determined by a seeded draw.

A player will be assigned to one of 4 ?draw-pots?, based on ranking by finishing position in the most recently completed Bob?s Board Prediction League. Any Euro24 prediction competition entrants without a ranking will be added to the bottom of the ranking list by virtue of when their Qualification predictions are submitted.

Once the draw is made, and rivalries established, the group phase prediction matches can begin.

The Group phase prediction matches will be based on predictions you make for Euro24 group games. In each prediction match you play in the Group phase, you are allowed to choose two of your predictions as ?bankers? to give you a chance to earn extra prediction points.

Your predictions will need to be submitted before each Euro24 game kicks off. Any predictions submitted after a Euro24 game kicks off will not be counted. There will be no exceptions.
Euro24 games to predict and the ?head-to-head? fixtures will be posted in individual threads on Bob?s Board.
The results of the prediction matches will be posted after the completion of each round, and group tables will be published after rounds 2 and 3.

Here?s how the prediction matches are scored -
A prediction is worth 3 points for a fully correct score, 1 point for a correct result, and 0 points for an incorrect result.
A prediction with an identified ?banker? will score you double points.

The winner of a ?head-to-head? prediction match will be the player with the higher prediction points. If both players have the same number of prediction points, the ?head-to-head? prediction match is a draw,

A player winning a prediction match will earn 3 group points.
A player drawing a prediction match will earn 1 group point.
A player losing a prediction match will earn 0 group points.

Whereabouts you finish in your group will be decided on the number of group points you have earned from your ?head-to-head? prediction matches. If players are level on group points earned, placings will be decided by prediction points. If players are still level, placings will be decided by a ?penalty shoot-out? of prediction points earned from prediction round 1 game 1 onwards until the placing is resolved.

If you win your group you will be contemplating a strong run in the Knockout phase, but even if you finish rock-bottom of your group, it won?t be a ticket on the next plane home because all players will progress to the Knockout phase!

The Knockout phase:

If you win or finish runner-up in your group, you are in the Euro24 Prediction Competition Trophy, to compete to be Euro24 Prediction Trophy champion.

If you came third or fourth in your group you will play in the Euro24 Prediction Competition Plate.

This means all players will compete in the Knockout phase, and a player will have a chance at either becoming the overall Trophy competition winner, or the Plate winner.

The Knockout phase is all about amassing as many prediction points as possible (no ?head-to-head? matches here). Each player starts the Knockout phase on zero points, and has the chance to earn prediction points from:

- predicting the score (at the end of normal time) of Euro24 knockout games,
and
- the Qualification predictions (yes, the ones you made before anyone had kicked a Euro24 tournament ball).

The player achieving the most prediction points at the end of the Knockout phase in the Trophy competition will be crowned overall Euro24 Prediction Trophy champion.

Should there be more than one player with the most points at the end of the Knockout phase in the Trophy competition, a winner will be decided by a ?penalty shoot-out? (explained below in ?Nobody likes to win it this way, but . . .?).

The player achieving the most prediction points at the end of the Knockout phase in the Plate competition will be crowned Euro24 Prediction Plate winner.

Should there be more than one player with the most points at the end of the Knockout phase in the Plate competition, a winner will be decided by a ?penalty shoot-out? (explained below in ?Nobody likes to win it this way, but . . .?).

Predictions for Euro24 knockout games will need to be submitted before each Euro24 knockout game kicks off. Any predictions submitted after a Euro24 knockout game kicks off will not be counted. There will be no exceptions.

The Euro24 knockout games to predict will be based on the tournament rounds ? the ?Last 16? (aka the Round of 16), Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and Final.
There is no 3rd / 4th place play-off game in Euro24.

Each Euro24 knockout round of games to predict will be posted in individual threads on Bob?s Board. Tables for the Trophy and Plate competitions will be posted after each Euro24 knockout round of games.

To add a bit of sparkle, for the Knockout phase each player is allocated a total of 3 ?banker? predictions. A player can choose when to play their ?bankers?, across the Knockout rounds, but will only be allowed to select a maximum of 3 in total (and not per round).

Having said that, there is an additional bonus for the group winners.
As a reward for good performance at the Group phase, a player reaching the Euro24 Prediction Trophy competition as a group winner will be allocated an additional 2 ?banker? predictions, which must be used in the ?Last 16? round.

Prediction scoring at The Knockout phase:

For each Euro24 game at the Knockout phase:
A prediction is worth 3 points for a fully correct score, 1 point for a correct result, and 0 points for an incorrect result.
A prediction with an identified ?banker? will score double points.

For predictions submitted at Qualification:
Each correct prediction is worth 1 point.

?Nobody likes to win it this way, but . . .?)
Yes, its the dreaded ?penalty shoot-out? ? where the winner will be decided by prediction points earned from the Qualification predictions, starting with prediction number 1 and continuing until, hopefully, the placing is resolved. If it hasn?t been, the ?shoot-out? continues and a winner will be decided by prediction points earned from the Knockout phase rounds, starting with the first prediction game and continuing until the placing is resolved.

Some ?small-print? items:

Competition rules are approved by Benno Spire.
If at any time you feel I have miscalculated your score then post a comment on the results thread which I will then check for you. Remember I am only human and do encourage everyone to check their scores.
The website https://www.uefa.com/euro2024/ will be the source of information in determining the outcome of all items requested to be predicted (including Qualification predictions, Group phase predictions and Knockout phase predictions).
The Euro24 Prediction Competition organiser has the final say in any dispute.
