A contract once offered has to remain “open” for a month.

Really???? so a club that finds itself in a predicament where it can only afford to buy one player, can offer a player a contract and that offer must remain open for a full month?? so said player can then deprive club the opportunity to look for an alternative just by p*****g around for a month?? really??

Absolutely crazy if that' the case, especially for clubs at our level, its just more and more player power.... of does that rule only apply to existing club's players where their contracts have expired with that club and an offer has been made...and not to players where a club are attempting to sign them from another club or where the player is un-attached?

That thread doesn't confirm anything. Anyway, an offer can be withdrawn at any time, unless it's been accepted. Once accepted, it's effectively a contract, even though the contract start date hasn't passed. Also, an offer could have been made saying it will automatically be withdrawn, in say, a month.

There has been some fun with De Gea and contracts at Man Utd. He agreed one, signed it on reduced money and then the club changed their minds and offered a different one on less money again which he’s not signed and ended up leaving the club.

The story I read is that they withdrew the reduced contract before DeGea signed it. It probably is the right time for him to move on, but a pretty shabby way to treat a long serving player.

My guess would be heading to join the influx in Saudi or back to Spain.

The money on offer over there now is utterly bonkers. You can't fault the players when they're being offered £1m+ / week!

It confirms my memory was right when I said abbey sued the club over a withdrawn contract.

An offer might be withdrawn, are you sure there isn’t an agreement with the PFA and FA/EFL/NL thatCONTRACTS have to remain on the table for a month?

We are probably more likely to sign Harley Curtis rather than Macauley Bonne

Surely he’d be a development player rather than a first team player…expect a couple more signings that will be first team players & some moving out….squad will be awesome come start of the season

I'd like us to sign him on a 2 year deal with an option of another year, send him out on loan somewhere. same with Jez you can tell there's a player in there just needs consistent minutes

From the two appearances so far, he deserves a contract. Lots of potential IMHO.

JonB replied to Westbars with

"I can find things about him taking us to the PFA\League about it, initially losing then appealing the decision and i had it in my head we had to pay him off in some way but i cant find anything about the last bit."

IMHO there's nothing in there about Nathan sueing the club.
Nothing in there saying he won his appeal to the PFA/League.
JonB "had it in his head", but couldn't find a thing to confirm he wasn't recalling correctly.

I couldn't see anything in the FA, PFA or NL rules on an offer being open for any specific time period, let alone a month. I also looked at the EFL rules, even though neither Solihull or Town are in it, but, tbf, we were back in 2012.

From what I remember it was the offer of a contract to renew an existing player regarding us and Abbey which could be different to offering a contract to a potential new signing. I’ve also mentioned the recent thing with Man U and De Gea. They appeared to agree a new deal to the point De Gea had signed before Man U changed their mind and offered a second contract on even lower terms which De Gea has turned down and left the club.

Pretty sure Abbey took us to a tribunal over the removal of his contract offer but no idea of the full details and to what reason he won. I’m not sure it’s as simple as any contract offer to a player has to be in place for a month.

Thanks for clearing that up JonB.
My understanding of DeGea js that Man Utd had a team option to extend for 2023-4 season, so not really an offer, nor need for DeGea to sign to accept it. It was simply a team option.
