Just watching the news about a 16yr old having been arrested for felling the tree at Sycamore Gap. I’ve been there a few times whilst hiking along Hadrians Wall, picnicked by it with the wife and taken students there to photograph it.

It’s hard to believe that this tree, which has stood there for nearly 200 years can just be taken away by some scroat. Probably because he/she thought it may be funny.

He’ll probably be charged with criminal damage, made to pay a small fine and left lose again. There is no deterrent in this country, they know they will get away with it.

Mindless vandalism. I can't get my head round what goes through these peoples heads when they do stuff like this. Not much I suppose. Complete empty heads.

In general I blame the (lack of) parenting for the scroats actions. The trouble is each generation tend to get worse with parents letting kids get away with a bit more than they did when they were kids, mainly due to the parents not making enough time due the selfish reasons to instill discipline and respect in their offspring

Charged with criminal damage (quite rightly) but I got my car keyed the other week and police didn’t even attend….

My car worth a hell of a lot more than a random tree etc…..

(You know what I mean)

Couldn't agree more. I have no idea what the maximum penalty is but it won't be anywhere near enough. I'd make the little **** rebuild Hadrians wall stone by stone and see how funny he thinks it is then...

End of the day it’s a tree though.

Yeah, stick him in a youth offenders institution while it does

At Arsenal he’d be reported to Social Services for cutting down a 🌳
