I honestly don’t know how the players will ever get over it

Potentially could been saved if the player had continued to put the pressure on it.

Did you see it happen, we’re you there? A friend of my daughter’s was there who said the bleeding was horrific, she seemed to think a main artery had been severed so was the force of the blood leaving his body.
But you’re the expert I suppose.

Well as it happens advanced first aid, not just first aid I might add, is a subject I’m well up on and I can’t believe anyone there in a sports environment would not have known to continue to apply, and keep applying, direct pressure, but I wasn’t there, of course in other areas of severe bleeding you would then involve the relevant pressure points, areas where major arteries can be compressed against the bone thus stemming the flow, namely the brachial, radial and femoral points, found in the upper arm, wrist and groin areas. Sadly none of these would have had any effect at all in a throat injury. A truly horrific accident that will remain as an awful memory for those who unfortunately witnessed it or indeed tried to help.
Thoughts with his family and friends.

That aside, what on Earth was the opposition player thinking karate kicking a player in the throat? Unbelievable.

On this occasion I probably am the expert - I’m fully qualified in all emergency care.
Not criticising the player but the medical staff aren’t fully qualified which will obviously change post this incident.
It’s very very rare but there are previous similar (which are used frequently as it happens on emergency courses - Malarchuk a few years ago).
Similar incident both awful

'Horrific but very poor medical support in U.K. ice hockey.
Potentially could been saved if the player had continued to put the pressure on it. '
Interesting that, as an 'expert' (and who'd have thought that you would describe yourself as such) who is 'fully qualified', you think it appropriate to make such disparanging comments about medical staff when minimal information has been released regarding the precise injury.
But then again, you got some fleeing attention on here with yet another bit of pointless garbage, so mission accomplished I guess.
Thoughts and prayers are with the friends of family of the player, the medical staff who fought to save his life and those who witnessed this awful event in Sheffield.

It sure why you would post all this but you obviously have knowledge of U.K. ice hockey scene.
You’ll know then that there is a crowd cover team and a team therapist.
No emergency care doc with a team is present (it’s a smallish sport budget wise in U.K. so the £500 cost of a matchday doc is often prohibitive).
The complexities of getting medical staff onto ice etc is an issue.
Of course these sort of incidents are very very rare thankfully.
I think it will bring about wholesale changes relating to head neck protection - like in cricket after the Aussie incident.

I’m no ice hockey expert and whilst I didn’t search for the clip, I did see it on Twitter and wondered what on earth his skates were doing up there.

Looked intentional to me. Didn’t intend on slicing his neck open but intended on stopping the fella in his tracks. Police investigating anyway but I’m not sure how it could be proved. Petr Cech is a GK/Owner for a team down south and they’ve brought in mandatory neck guards on the back of this so 1 positive in a grim situation.

He collides with another player throwing him off balance, whether he intentionally threw his foot in the air is up for discussion, but he was deffo off balance as he then fell over himself, he was immediately distraught at the outcome of the impact...
I'd like to think it was unintentional, but only he will actually know.
