The quality has always been there, he’s just had to be patient to get a run in the team.

Some of the shin pads these days wouldn't protect the shins of a young hobbit, let alone a fully grown man. They should make players wear decent pads to protect themselves. It's not as though they've been heavy or bulky for decades.

Saw one argument in favour claiming they didnt impede mobility like big ones....which seems utter crap to me, not like normal size ones cause that bearing in mind they are on a part of the leg that doesnt bend!! They should all be made to wear these....

To me, it's like not wearing a helmet while cycling or gardening in flip flops. I've had my fair share of stitches, so anything I can do to prevent any more visits to A&E, I'll do it. The whole team should learn from this.

Yep I bike to work on a fairly regular basis including this time of year…I’ve got a high vis jacket, helmet with lights point forwards and backwards, lights and reflectors on the bike….basically all I can to make sure I’m as safe as i can be. I wore a helmet batting in cricket for years, thankfully they are more the norm even at club cricket these days. Don’t understand why you’d want to reduce the chances of not getting hurt by wearing tiny shin pads!!

You do right mate. The first shin pads I wore were leather with vertical stiffners and were a pain to wear, because they moved around so much, but I still wore them. Compared, the lightweight ones I had later were a dream to wear, and saved some spilling of blood.

Yep I had some of the black shin pads above that were like body armour under your socks with the ankle bits on as well. Later on I changed to ones just down your socks but at least they were a decent size!!

I wonder if an instruction has gone out, Oldaker wasn’t wearing those silly ankle socks that he likes tonight.
