Being in the centre of the Country does not guarantee shortest mileage - When the likes of Plymouth. Torquay, Exeter, Bournemouth, Brighton and the Brizzles are in the same division, mileage trends are significantly different to when Rotherham, Donny, Notts Co, Barnsley etc etc are together.

We're on a run at the moment that has quite a few 'Southern' Northern Clubs in our patch that makes the mileage favourable.

Basic mathematics dictate it probably does!!...... When those clubs are in the same division as we are it also increases the mileage of the other teams, % wise, therefore we still come out on top. Add to this the fact that the majority of league teams are centered around the centre of the country, say North London-Lancashire, and Lincoln-Wrexham, we are always going to fare favourably, regardless of division and teams in that division.

Good to hear!!

Regarding the basic mathematics theme!!!

My old Maths teacher (Spireite he was as well), once asked a question..circa 1980, "How does the space shuttle fly round the moon and back?"..well all us eager to impress kids (13-14 yr olds) clamoured with the answer.."Rocket fuel Mr Moseby", "Astronauts Mr Moseby", "jet engines Mr Moseby", "computers Mr Moseby"...and endless more attempts!!

"All good answers class" he said.."but although all those thing are needed" he added.."you`re all wrong"!!!!!!

"The space shuttle flies round the moon and back due to basic mathematics"..
Now anyone on here care to argue with that!!

BTW I bet one or two of you on here remember Mr Moseby!! (Spireite and a gent!!)

The space shuttle has never flown around the moon. Basic is also a subjective word, I would have suggested it was physics rather than mathematics.
Guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue!

The wording may have lost something over the period of time..and I rather think a teacher was trying to get over the importance of basic mathematics to a group of eager students rather than offer a complex explanation of space travel to a smug individual..but I may be wrong!

I remember him very well, but he was headmaster when I attended Tibby late 80s/early 90s. Never knew he was a Spireite though.

He was my maths teacher (and deputy head) when I first went to the Tibshelf and was made headmaster around 81ish I think. He was 100% Spireite and I believe he still attends matches in the main stand.

Thanks for the link, interesting that last season for the third season running we had the shortest mileage in the league at 2,662 (2005/06 2,591 2004/5 2,335)

http://www.tonykemps...k/lge1miles.htm

Div 2 next season will be less and I reckon we might also have the shortest mileage again, in fact maybe we are the best positioned club in the country!

next season: round trip to every away game (starting at the ground) is 3776m. its been a wet cold bank holiday.
