Can't remember if I've seen him linked on here but 30 year old right back scouser by the name of Rafferty released by Pompey. Played the majority of league games this season in a league 1 title winning team, he was surprised he wasn't offered another deal as he thought he could do a job in the championship.

    Pompey and scouser connection.....

Rafferty had a decent season, having also been very good the year before. He was part of the senior group of players that got a really decent team spirit going under Mousinho which made a huge contribution to our season and on some levels was very unfortunate not to be offered a new deal. He says he still backs himself to perform at Championship level (he was at PNE for a couple of years), I'm not so sure, but he'll have plenty of suitors in L1.

That said, if you've got a top-end L2 budget next season it's not beyond the realms of possibility - again (as per my response on Towler above), he's got plenty about him that I think would suit Cook - and vice versa; particularly if he's offered a longer deal. He's 30, but is as fit as a flea (or fit as a butchers dog, in Martin Allen-ese). Whoever gets him next season will have done well for themselves.

he’s had experience at Grimsby and Wimbledon, as well as Portsmouth obviously. Could be well worth a punt

Reports from the Pompey side that they want him to send him out on loan, rather than a permanent deal

Yes, Towler would likely be a loan as things stand.

We signed him from Bristol City last January as one to develop, but he ended up featuring in most of our games for the remainder of the 22/23 campaign and impressed. He started the opening day of this season in the starting line-up but had a disappointing game - was unlucky that the player who replaced him ended up playing every minute of the remaining 45 league games and ended up in the L1 team of the season.

He's a ball-playing left-footed centre half who has lots to like about him - but he needs to go and get 40-odd league games somewhere next season. I'd say he's very much a Cook-type defender - some similarities with Christian Burgess who Cook signed at Pompey.

He's already had half a season in L2 before signing with us, where he impressed at AFC Wimbledon.

Congratulations on your promotion back to the EFL, it will be good to have you back. Really pleased for you, the management team (always held a soft spot for Paul Cook after his tenure at Pompey and Robbo for his role in our promotion from L2), and a few of your current players who've worn the royal blue for us in recent years.

I could see how much quality you had when you dumped us out of the cup at your place in the autumn but even then, to win such a competitive division with five games to spare is an incredible achievement.

Savour today - have a great weekend - and welcome back.

    Thanks mate.

Hope you continue to do well too.

Just for the record though - have you sold more than half a dozen of those away shirts?

Thanks, a disappointing outcome but one we can't have too many complaints about.

The strip is an anniversary kit - salmon pink/maroon shirts, white shorts and black socks were our original colours in the 19th century. It's safe to say it split opinion when it was launched, but I guess if we ignored our heritage we may as well all be MK Dons.

Well played, you deserved that today. Outfought and outplayed us.

Best of luck for the rest of the season.
