Try Saturday Sun Tim, from Five Leaves Left. For me, it doesn't get much more melodic and meaningful.

Gotta be "river man" surely mate?!?! Well that's opinions I suppose.

Aye, Reuben's a mate of mine.

His solo work eclipsed anything he did with The Small/Faces. The Poacher is a genius at work, as is most of his Slim Chance stuff. Taken far too young at 51.

I've been listening to Midlake for years, since hearing Edith Bowman play 'Head Home' as her record of the week....knowing you like the same stuff as me, I should have pegged ya really! Lol.

This is what I find amazing mate. A mate of yours is the son of a legend. I often wonder what you'd speak about musically.

Amazing really.

He never even mentioned his Dad for ages after we met. It was only when I spotted a picture in his living room, and asked him that he comfirmed who his Dad was. Ronnie split with Reuben's mum, and went to live with another woman, and that's still raw with him I guess...

His musical taste is quite diverse, remember him raving about seeing Kasabian at Glasto before they made it big....on the other hand, he had a Scissor Sisters album!!!!!!!

River man is a great song mate..... If you go on youtube and search celicasimon (one word) my older brother has done a few covers on there......Fly being one of them.... Check it out...not flawless as he does them for a laugh with his daughter more than anything.

I used to work for a company called from Cotgrave, Notts, called JCB (John and Charlie's Boxes) who put the horseboxes up and provide the security for all the big shows and trials round the country, such as Hickstead,Burleigh,East of England. He worked in a snack van that made Toasties that followed these horse shows around the country. We'd be there all week, and naturally got to know each other well.

Used to have a right laugh at these shows Tim, wish I still did it. Blasting around site on a beast of a quad bike, mingling with the Horsey set ;). There was always summat to do at night, such as a boozer or club on site, than back to someone's caravan to continue supping after closing.

If we were on nights in the main gate, Reuben and a few of his mates would come and sit in with us, with a few cans....Remember one morning waking back up in our caravan in the morning when I should have been on shift, to my workmate walking in, to be roundly smacked in the dial, for getting wasted, f*****g off, and leaving him on his own all night!! Anyway....enough reminiscing.....

Reuben lives in a beautiful place just outside Shrewsbury called Bishops Castle, an absolute belter of a night out, which would more often than not end up in The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury, a club at the back of The Dana(HMP Shrewsbury) A brilliant pub called The Three Tuns, sawdust on the floor, proper ales, and a brilliant collection of locals...many more good boozers as well. The town itself is stunning, well worth a visit if you're ever down that way. Set in a valley, and on a huge hillside. It always makes me think of what life would have been like in days gone by for some reason, and I imagine there were plenty of witches covens around there in days of old! A lot of the old cottages in the town are painted in bright colours, and are very quaint, and the town centre architecture is so picturesque......

Sorry for rambling, but you did ask ;)

Top album, saw him do a solo show at The Boardwalk in Sheff, was only about a dozen of us there - still did a top set though. Got tickets for Cast in May (with The Twang also).

The Pixies probably make my top 9 bands of all time (the reason I've gone 9 is that they flow easily and there are probably 30-40 other bands who come be number 10) which would be something like this...

REM
Radiohead
Nirvana
The Smiths
Manic Street Preachers
Pixies
Stone Roses
Joy Division
The Who

Mine wouldn't be that much different to yours WS.

With the exception of REM, and as much as I love The Manics, especially Generation Terrorists, The Holy Bible, and Gold Against The Soul. Some of their albums since Richey disappeared have lacked 'something' perhaps with the exception of Everything Must Go, so I'm unsure about them. Tough one for me, I'm undecided if they'd merit my top 10 on those first 4 albums alone????

& yet you seem to agree that the stone roses are up there on the back of 1 marvellous album, 1 dodgy follow up & god knows how many best ofs

any top 10 (9) that doesnt include the clash is lacking. in my opinion #1 then every other group can scramble for a podium finish.

Clash, REM, Joy Division, Nirvana, Radiohead, Smiths

would all make it in to my top ten - of most overrated bands

I like the Stone Roses but can't include them in my top ten however good one album is. I like the Clash too but never listened to enough to love them. Plus one of the albums I do have by them is absolute garbage (the cod reggae one).

Would make my top 500. IMO rubbish the lot of em. Have a +1 for seeing the light. Clash is punk end of. REM a nothing band with nothing music. Joy Division little more than pop music. The final 3 are the musical equivalent of mogadon
