That was only the 2nd game I have seen live this season but I was massively impressed with our game management. At 2:0 we never looked like conceding and their goal had a hint of luck about it. But at 2:1 I thought we played our best stuff of the match and saw it out easily. Many times this season the comments on here have been how terrible our game management has been towards the end of the game which has seen us conceding late goals and dropping stacks of points. Credit to the manager and the players. Some young lads out there and the experienced guys really helped them through.

A big positive going forward. We're in with a chance.

We're one win from overtaking Grimsby now. It might alter on Friday if they win. They simply have to beat Stevenage. If they do it could spark a revival. But it's in our hands. Let'sbuild on this and keep some clean sheets for a change.

That is the first time I've seen us manage a lead properly. We must have dropped at least 10 points over the season by conceding late when we've been leading or drawing. What we have been guilty of regularly is falling further and further back and allowing the entire opposing team to camp in our half of the pitch and put us under constant pressure. For whatever reason, we did not do that yesterday. We continued with the pressing and closing down that gave us the advantage throughout the game. IMO it is a reward for Jack's emphasis on fitness because we never slacked off and never gave them a chance to dominate.

That was not a good example of game management. In fact it was a glaring lack of it after the sending off

I've been banging on about exactly this for ages. It was a big fault of Saunders team, sitting back inviting pressure and the inevitable happens.

I really really hope Jack has seen the light and tells his team to push forward right up to the whistle from now on.

 The next 4 games, especially those 3 away will define the clubs future. If the team can perform like they did yes'day and make a promotion seeking side look ordinary instead of failing against their contempories then survival could be on the cards.
Many a good tune

We pressed and harried them. It's been one of the big things that has really annoyed me that other teams have been given so much time on the ball to pass it around as they please, without any of our players chasing it down. What happens when we chase every single ball down? We score a goal like Hines' where it ping pongs around. We also didn't drop back and held a high line

It's a lot easier when you know that over 5 meters you can catch up with the man you are marking
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

I agree with almost all of the above but when did the term 'game management' come into currency? It's often just a euphemism for 'time wasting', though I appreciate there is more to it, in terms of not dropping back and inviting pressure.
These go to eleven.

Absolutely agreed, we've been screaming for that kind of pressing for weeks. I'm sure Notts did their homework and expected us to drop back when we didn't have the ball so that would have made the pressing we did doubly effective.

I just hope we can maintain the same drive, determination and energy over the remaining games of the run in when we don't have the Sky circus in town.

I had the Grimsby manager sat next to me yesterday - very chatty considering and conceeded that we fully deserved our win. His leaving quote was 'Any point is massive at this stage of the season'.
God I hate this league.

Did he seem to believe they could turn it around?

Wasn’t the stat shown on sky that we have dropped more points from a winning position out of the entire league (25) than other team

Our league position would look very different if we'd held on to even half if those points. Let's hope the penny has dropped after Sunday.
