There's some personal truth in those lyrics for me as my Dad said something very similar to me after taking me to my first ever match at Saltergate as a young boy 60 years ago. It was against Bradford Park Avenue as I recall.

Me too, my lad is 100% spireite, despite his mother buying him man utd gear as a child, I soon put him on the right path, he follows town, home and away every week now.

My first game was circa 1960, and my eldest brother said it was against Southport. Blue and white scarf hand knitted by me mam, and a Bovril at half time I couldn't hold with gloves on.
Seen some great players, but plenty of dross too, I don't count Tony Moore as dross, we had way worse over the years.

I agree Tony Moore wasn't dross. I always felt sorry for him and the abuse he received. We have had much much worse since. He can't have been that bad as he played first team games in the championship winning team of 1969/70. If I remember correctly he scored in a 3-1 win against Peterborough on the night we lifted the trophy. I also had a Mam knitted blue and white scarf and hat complete with a blue and white pompom on top lol

Does anyone remember the Christian Daley song sung by West Ham at Saltergate to the tune of the Andy Williams hit you're just too good to be true when we knocked them out of the Carling cup in 2006?

I’ve got a few hammers friends, there’s more of them than you’d think in town. That song goes something like

Oh Christian Dailly you are the love of my life
Oh Christian Dailly I’d let you s**g my wife
Oh Christian Dailly
I want curly hair too

I’m sure comeonyouirons can confirm?

That's the one and yes those lyrics are correct. I could remember them but I just wondered if anyone else could. It amused me on the night and I changed the name Christian Daley for Caleb Folan and sang it as I walked in the house when I got home after the game. For some strange reason my Wife wasn't amused by it though.

The chants and songs were definitely far better and more interesting and original in the 60's / 70's. Not nostalgia they just were. Obviously some like 'Sweet Molly Malone', etc, would be too complex for modern fans whose singing and chanting seem very limited and repetitive. One of the best back in the day was 'build a bonfire' regarding the dee dah clubs.

'Ooh it's a corner'

All a bit jumpers for goalposts but hey, it worked well enough in the 70s

Yep, remember those, and don't forget good old Daisy Daisy give me your answer do or The Mighty Quinn which must have been used by every club on the planet at some stage. I believe that the first was sung after WWII and carried on till the late sixties. I'm showing my age here lol.

You're right the mighty Quinn was used for Eric Winstanley and prior to that it was used for Kev Randall (the mighty Kevin).

Mams made sure you were dressed right in them days. I looked like a miniature version of Golden Gordon, although I never got to throw the mantlepiece clock through the front window, unlike Michael Palin. That episode of Ripping Yarns was probably acted out many times over the years in Town lol.

Haha I'm sure everyone that has supported town for a number of years have had lots of Golden Gordon moments. That 10 game winless run last season had me pretty close so it's understandable that Gordon's Barnstoneworth Uniteds 6 years of not winning a game drove him to do what he did lol.

Sweet molly Malone gets sung at most away games by a few and build a bonfire was sung against Wednesday and united in the pre season friendlies. It’s also a very cringe song up there with the the *insert any town nice or not shît hole song.

I started a fair few ‘Everywhere we go’ back in the day. I don’t think I could do it now. As for putting on a show we’re sticking too many syllables into that space. Just have it as watching Chesterfield and it would sound better.
