Wrexhams retained list just announced and made for interesting reading with Lainton, Hayden, Tunnicliffe, Tozer, Young and McFadzean all released!!! Don’t think I’d take any of those here apart from maybe Hayden if his injuries are behind him (especially not McFadzean) tbh but still interesting to see!!!

On the same subject, I see Notts County have released six players, in their words, ‘who made huge contributions to our return to our EFL return’
O’Brien, Brindley, Bostock, Baldwin and Adebayo, with Rawlinson made available for transfer.

I see [just] Eleven English Football League clubs and 16 from the non-league pyramid have joined forces to urge the Government to reinstate FA Cup replays.

It’s not going to change is it?

I’m afraid I misinterpreted his post, he’s clarified it below (above)

It would be a poorly managed squad to have 24 on you books when you are allowed 22 so I don’t see the point he was making

Cos you’ve given, or extended a player a new contract earlier in the season and then you find a much better player is available. Player X is left out of the 22 man squad - given a heads up and suggested to him he either looks for a transfer or a loan deal until the next window.

It’s a sure fire way of saying ‘it’s no use fighting for your place’ cos there isn’t one.

If you’re right and I’ve no reason to doubt you then that isnt a 22 man squad then, it’s just the same as picking a match day squad. Week to week? Surely not 🤷🏻‍♂️

No. Sorry, wrong use of ‘squad’ in this case.
You have two chances to name your 22 man squad, one at the beginning of the season, one in the middle.
Nothing to stop you having 24 eligible players say, with 2 being left out when the squad names are reported to the EFL.
Or, as Wrexham did, name 21 and have the option of choosing which one makes the final squad later down the line.

I’ve no problem with an inexpensive gamble whatsoever, but this 22 man squad size concerns me. Bailey Hobson is 21 so not sure if he might not count? If he does count as part of the 22 then he’d be a big no from me if we want to do anything next season. Nothing against him but space doesn’t allow it. Drummond is 24 so he’d definitely be part of the 22.

Of course the 22 man limit is on players eligible to play, not players in the squad. So, should a player have a long term injury, or have hit rock bottom form, he will be omitted, no doubt the latter offered out on loan to gain match experience elsewhere.

Wrexham named a 21 man squad for the second half of the season, with either of two available players on the books having the chance to fill the last place subject to fitness and form.
