EX West Ham and Town ...

Terrific player . I had the pleasure of meeting him in early 80s when I worked at Ladbrokes on Brampton , he used to come in with Billy Dearden

RIP Bill

Very sad, and only 66. Although his CV read as that of a journeyman, he played for us (and presumably all his clubs) as if we were his boyhood club, inspiring our players, and fans on many occasions, to give that bit extra. Playing alongside John Ridley, they formed a formidable, and skilful, centre back unit.

RIP Bill.

He was the best captain we ever had, I would have liked to have seen him as manager here, what a player. R.I.P. Bill.

This.

I think if I'm right he played with another centre back and the pair were excellent together. Think his name was les hunter. At the start of my love for Town.

RIP Bill your efforts gave me the bug. Thank you.

Wow, just talking to Colin Tartt and Bob Newton about Bill Green on Saturday.
The first time I met Bill he was talking about wanting to smash in the face of Terry Curran.

Rip to a great club captain

Sadly he played before my time, though I have met him and have his autograph somewhere in my book that I used to have when I was a nipper. I have seen him play for us, but unfortunately I can't remember much about town when my old man took me on a few occasions. Pity as we were bl@@dy good then

RIP Captain Bill, far too young to die these days.

EDIT: Can anyone remember if he ran the Bolsover fun run back in the early 80's with a few other town players? Seem to remember that I ran against him as a lad (of course they all beat me) and that's where I gained his moniker)

Sad news, a huge presence in our best ever team a player of his attributes would be valuable in any football generation.
I remember him for being a great leader on the pitch, I'm pretty sure I recall him being the only player I have ever seen land a proper punch, v Millwall last game of the 82/83 season.
If you do what you always do, you'll get what you always get.

Formed a great partnership with john ridley, 2 blokes you would not get in a fist fight with.Green was a proper old school captain and a lower league Tony Adams from what i can remember, he can be seen punting in the ball for Ernies first of 3 against Walsall, in our 4 -3 win

A proper Mans man, and good player to boot. You could always no matter how noisy the crowd was hear Bill shouting out instructions an encouraging his team mates.

RIP Bill.
