What were the grounds for budgeting 7k crowds last season?
Why only come out with all this now?

Something doesn't add up

That's what I'd like to know.

gates will be around 7000 average this year - the sell out games against Blunts, Donny, Barnsley and Coventry will see to that. Chuck in Notts county and a few other localish sides like Vale, Wallsall and the extra away support they will bring - we will be ok for attendances.

Not if we are in the bottom four most of the seasons

We were well short of selling out one of the Sheffield games if not both last time in L1

They'll be a few crowds in the low 4000's as well

STOP BLAMING THE ATTENDANCES. WE ARE A SMALL CLUB. 7,000 AVERAGE LAST YEAR WAS A RIDICULOUS ESTIMATE.
If we don't sign players which include two decent strikers we are going down then he'll be moaning about blimey attendances because nobody will come anymore.
We were promised 2011 wouldn't happen ever again but, it has. We constantly get promised things that never get followed through. I have never felt so disappointed with the club. I feel so sorry for PC who has now got to work with such a small group of players and the players which are bound to be under enormous pressure to one perform and two stay fit all year to give us a chance.

you need to look at the official site again Mr B

Yep. Re-read it.
No mention of how much more PC would have got if they had got their income predictions right. The new budget, call it X.
No mention by how much X has had to be shaved to get to the new amended budget, call it Y.
No mention of how Y compares to last years budget, call it Z.
Z = £1.4m.

Are you saying only people from Chesterfield Borough attend games?

No, just a quick simple comparison, but increasing catchment area size wouldn't take us up to the 250K mark

When you look at how we outplayed Peterborough, a good League One side, for long periods at Wembley, it's heartbreaking to realise that a couple of quality players could have made us into a bl**dy good side this season. Yet the decision has been taken to stand still because we can't afford to get better. I can understand how frustrated Paul Cook is. A good side challenging in the top six would have us hitting 7k easily.

And at Leeds where we came away as if we had won. All the work of rejigging the backroom, decent players and real progress is cut short because someone/they got their numbers wrong.
Anyway another happy tablet

Considering this very point, there is a population list published by Derbyshire CC. Depending on how far one would wish to Spread The Net 300K plus could be argued.

Sick of the fans getting the blame for the dogsh** predicted attendance.

The fans always get the blame! Its our fault they haven't sold enough season tickets, our fault that not enough people went to see Tom Jones, our fault that we don't buy that extra cup of coffee/pint of beer in the concourse. If we happen to be languishing near the foot of the table this season then all of the above will be the reason for that - so being garbage will be our fault too.
Would be nice if Mr Allen put his hand up and said - sorry lads - screwed up on the budget front and lied my tits off about getting some extra players in and being in the championship in 5 years - apart from that I've been spot on!

How could anyone with any semblance of accounting sense get the attendance figure so horribly wrong?

We budgeted for a 5,000 break even figure for the first season at the ProAct. We managed just short of 7,000 with the feelgood factor of new ground, new optimism, a decent amount of local games the best strike force weve had in years, fast entertaining football and top almost from the word go.

Fast forward 2 years, weve had a shocking relegation season, unrest with the previous manager, the novelty factor of ground etc well and truly worn off, a new man who has come in who has slowly turned things around playing decent-ish football but with no real vim and vigour,a poorer league 2 composition geographically, and an underachieving 8th place finish.

Who in their right mind would budget for a 7,000 break even figure for the 2013-14 season given the above facts?

I don’t think 7000 was a ‘ridiculous estimate’ to make last year especially when you consider the previous 2 seasons attendances. We made some very good signings last summer and our squad was considered by just about every L2 Manager as being the best. In addition, we were in the Top 3 pretty much all season and the quality of the football was pretty special.

True but we have to share this with Derby County, I know of Chesterfield people who go to Derby and not Town, the cricket club can legitimately claim the whole of Derbyshire

Plus of course the two Sheffield clubs. Look how many Chesterfield based Blades fans keep their red and white allegiance even when we are in the same league.

Absolutely madness. But if we have to go with what we have, I will be supporting them all the way. Better than going bust.

So in essence we are talking about the club basing attendance estimates on 2.8% of a 250K catchment area. Not un-realistic IMO.

The first issue was forecasting the attendances they did for last season.
