How does Sheffield comes under Peak FM's license? Doesn't your, and every other station, have a very specific area you could draw on a map? Where's the line?

We do have a specific area, and Sheffield does come under it. Just. We prioritise Chesterfield, Alfreton and Matlock, and rightly so.

Agreed. Though why there's that geographic anomaly I'm unsure.

Do radio waves obey geographical boundaries?

I was at the Fox House Inn last week and they had Peak FM on in the bar loud and clear.

However, I am amazed that South Yorkshire is in Peak's remit unless you count the western/southern fringe of Sheffield which was stolen from Derbyshire anyway

Chesterfield is a geographical anomaly, that is why we have to put up with Yarkshire this Yarkshire that on the Beeb/ITV

Our patch has grown quite a bit over the past few years. South Sheffield has been in it since I was freelancing nearly 4 years ago.

Dan' s right tho in terms of priorities.

There is a small but a significant number of our listenership which is interested in how Derby and the Sheffield two get on. I.e owls n blades fans in Chesterfield and Derby fans in Bakewell n Matlock.

hopefully you all know from listening to us where our priorities lie.

and we don't play a lot of lighthouse family these days. It's Ella Henderson 5 times an hour

Not really.

Worksop, Lincoln, Scunthorpe, Grimsby etc etc all have to put up with the same. Believe it or not BBC TV's 'Yorkshire' area touches parts of North Norfolk. Work that out.

Even more anomalies, but surely those areas have more suitable radio coverage. TV may be another matter

Disgusting, it's time they positioned transmitters in the right areas

Exactly BBC Radio Derby should be our rightful BBC station rather than listening to the whiney nonsense from deedahland. Which fails to give Chesterfield it's full attention.

Mr Mercury will only be happy when you start playing Queen 24-7! LOL!

Personally myself would be quite happy with Calvin Harris, David Guetta and AC/DC looped!!

yes but if they say South Sheffield they can say to advertisers, "Ooh look how many potential listeners we have," No-one in Sheffield listens to it, they have their own formulaic crud on Hallam.

No it's not. We have never been associated with the dee dahs, we've always been Midlands and they are North, goes back over a thousand years when we were in different countries, us in Mercia, them in Northumbria- the boundary was at Dore!

historically and culturally we have nothing to do with Yorkshire, long may it continue to be so and may whoever thought up the abhorrent and nonsensical concept of the 'sheffield City region' rot in hell. I have fond memories of the successful 1970s fight against Yorkshire imperialism by Barlborough et al :D

The TV transmitters at Unstone want to be changed to transmit the east midland broadcasts from Nottingham rather than the dire stuff from leeds, and as a previous poster has said, we want to drop out of the radio sheffield area and into a Derbyshire based station, whether that is a rejigged radio Derbyshire or a new one just for us (Radio Scarsdale, after the hundred, perhaps?)

Nail on head, you can pick up Peak in South Sheffield so in an attempt to retain that extra listenership they will offer them something as a "commercial" radio station, however they only appear to give minimal coverage and with the primary focus being clearly on us it could be argued they help encourage a switch of allegiance over to us
