On paper this looks like a good side.

Lee

Mc.Ginn, Evatt, Hird , Jones

Martinez, Liddle

Dennis, O Shea, Mitchell

Evans

A big improvement on last season's line up imho. I know we haven't seen half this team kick a ball yet so judgement will have to

be reserved until we see them play. It is possible that a team can look good on paper but are rubbish as a team aka England.

Dream team?

Where's Ariyibi gone in your dream? Did you dream Dennis was a wide man?

Two lads with no league appearances in the wide areas, one lad who's coming back from a long term injury in midfield and a guy up front who hasn't kicked a ball in nearly 5yrs!! Admire your optimism but think we need to be a little careful!!

Fair point, upon reflection I would probably put Ariyibi on right wing and sub Evans on 60 mins with Dennis, depending on how the game was going.

Nice one Chester that made me chuckle .

The reason Liddle is in is because like it or not he's the captain, also who else do we have who is defensive midfield ?

I'd make Evatt the captain and play 4-4-2 with Angel and Nolan in central midfield.

Do you think there is any possibility that he might try Gboly as a number 10, just behind Evans? He took up the position several times mid matches towards the end of the season. There's also a fascinating sub plot in my opinion as to whether Mitchell is good enough to succeed Jayo.

Tommy
McGinn, Evo, Hird, Jones
O'Neill, Liddle
Mitchell/Jayo, Gboly, Banks, Donohue
Evans

Subs : Duke, Dennis, Maguire, Daly, SEB, Simons, Nolan

That leaves Raglan, Gardner, Beesley surplus; and more interesting banter if an experienced LHS CH comes, and if he can move SEB on.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

A good way to win with 12 players ?

I'm hoping Banks doesn't get anywhere near a starting place this season, he's simply not good enough! Sooner have Randall!!

Totally forgot about Nolan. Seems like a good player but how to fit him in the team.

What a lovely problem to have.

Exactly, that's what pre-season is for, to work out what suits us best IF the way Danny had in mind doesn't fit right.
Also, how anyone can make a call like that is beyond me as we have a few untried non-league lads making a couple of steps up the ladder and a guy that's not played pro football in four years. We've also got a weak squad that's low on confidence from last season with more doubts about it than there is positives. EG, we have an slow, ageing injury prone (ex)captain. A defensive central midfielder that looked anything like a good signing last time out and another central midfielder that hardly kicked a ball last season. Inconsistent wingers to say the least. An untried fullback and one returning from a long injury lay off and a keeper that doesn't look half as confident as he did a couple of seasons ago, and that's all the better players
Look, I'm not trying to be negative here, just being a realist, even though spirits may have been raised slightly with the new signings (and rightly so), there is a lot of work for Danny and the boys to do before we can even think we've got a team to be proud of again. Who knows, we could be the whipping boys of the league or we could find ourselves battling for promotion... Basically it's anyones guess at the moment and we need to see how thing shape up before we can even start to have an idea of which way our season is going to go.

which is exactly what he said in his last 2 sentences.

Are we not allowed to have a bit of fun indulging in 'best team' banter?

The beauty is, and I accept without having seen them play or how fit they all are, I struggle to see many players as shoe-ins whether we play 3-5-2, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1, 4-5-1 or whatever.

The oldest man likely to get near the team is Evatt but I'd like to think the potential left-sided CB to arrive can be regarded as his replacement. Nothing against Ian but I really can't see him playing 40+ games next season.
