Youth team had an excellent 7-1 against Mickleover Sports youth team tonight.

After falling behind in the first half,when they really should have been two or three up already.

They led 3-1 at the break.

Added four in the second half with George Milner bagging four.

A decent game with I guess about 100 there and no charge to get in.

There was no programme or teamsheet.

I didn't know the game was on- pity, as I don't live far away. I'll be at Belper tomorrow but not sure what kind of 'Chesterfield XI' will be on show.

given the majority of the first team will be taking some part at Ilkeston tonight, I'd suggest tomorrow will be fringe/shadow squad members with maybe the odd trialist/youth team player.

Off topic but... When I was a boy (the 60's) the parent generation used to say that if someone's behaviour was very odd he ought to be "in Mickleover". I presume there was/is a psychiatric hospital there and we didn't have one in Chesterfield at the time.

The County Lunatic Asylum was located in Mickleover, 1851 to 1994.

Once played a cricket friendly there and one of the inmates kept pestering one of our players ™ to buy a box of matches, who did the decent thing and ignored him, whilst he was at 3rd man (our skip kept him there deliberately). After 4 overs of this the inmate followed ™ to his other position at mid on. Whereby ™ cracked mainly due to p taking from team mates and following another plea from the in mate (if that's the correct term) responded, "FFS I don't bleeding smoke" the in-mate responded "that doesn't matter they're spent"

I never knew that. It's one of the better areas in Derby, which to be honest is not saying much.

To balance things, Mickleover Pastures by the 60s was the latter equivalent of a mental health unit, accommodating such as bipolar, schizophrenic and post natal depression patients. Most, or nearly all would have been discharged at some time.

They certainly weren't' 'inmates'. But yes, in those days we were all told it was somewhere much more sinister.

The Asylum was built to a design by architect Henry Duesbury in the years 1848 to 1851 and opened in 1851. The accommodation was designed to house 360 patients but was cut down to 300 as there was much indignation in some quarters at the suggestion that there were 360 lunatics in the County of Derbyshire.
