Is it possible to continue in this format, which is really easy on the eye or has it got to be a new set up?

Firstly it depends which format you mean, even this existing board has a mobile version?

It would be a massive shame if the board cannot be saved in a much needed upgraded format given it’s long history and many members.

It's been very frustrating not being able to post or moderate for the best part of a week due to the technical issues.

I'd also be happy to contribute if this needs funding and have no objections to staying on as a moderator. On that note I wouldn't be sorry to see the personal section disappear, as disagreements are far less personal when just sticking to the footy, although I do recognise a minority value it.

Another vote for getting rid of the Personal section. It’s a real shame that some users can’t discuss certain topics like adults. Although the worry for me is that those discussions would just spill over to the football sections?

One problem with removing the 'Personal' section is it probably contains much the 'political' stuff (note the small 'p') that might otherwise spread to the football sections.

I don’t see why people want to get rid of the personal section. If people don’t like it don’t visit it, if people are too offensive ban them, what’s the problem?

True, gets annoying when some posters on there moan about a lack of moderation, not appreciating this means having to read stuff I don't visit the board to do.

I personally think it’s unfair on moderators, things have been said in that section over the last cpl of years in particular that could well have involved “outside” involvement, and I don’t mean in the pub carpark sort of way, although that’s been possible. It’s a football forum and should be kept as such and for anyone wanting to continue those sort of discussions there must be other forums to scratch the itch on. And regarding banning people again it’s the moderators who would have to be the judge of that, and looking at moondogs post above he seems to make it apparent he wouldn’t be sad to see it go either.
Saying that if the new set up has a PS I’ll be there just to keep some of you in the real world as ever.
But the main thing for me at the moment is that we all do what we can to see the football side of things going in the best possible format.

Looks like the option mentioned previously has an option to transfer stuff over but it costs and not sure how easy it is to do.

Bear with me when it comes to the stupid questions, but are there specialists who do this sort of data transfer between such platforms for a living? Are they likely to list on Upworks / Fiverr and what type of person would we be looking for and what exactly do we want them to do?

Just seems like complaining about moderating which is the role moderators volunteer to take on. Loads of forums have one main discussion purpose, football for example, but then a section for more general discussions about other topics. Sometimes discussions get heated, well then the moderator has to do some moderating. If the moderator doesn’t want to do the moderating, don’t volunteer to be a moderator.

No offence meant to Moondog who think does a pretty good job

Couldn't a moderator be appointed with the sole purpose of covering the PS, tbh, I don't post on there a massive amount, but it does keep me entertained reading some of the spats that go on,on there..

Not 100% sure to be honest, potentially.

I suppose in theory a working board with a system that allows ok to report stuff makes it a little easier to moderate things. Don’t have to read everything, just respond to reports.

It's a sad day its bringing a tear to my eye.Over the years got to know some great people through Bob's Board. Always enjoyed putting a face to a user name. Let's hope it can re-invent itself in another form.

This thread on the ip.board support forums suggests there are people out there that will upgrade this forum to a newer version of the same forum software. Not sure if that’s a feasible option.

If people are voluntarily accessing the personal section to engage in personal debate then they shouldn't be squealing for moderation. Why should volunteer moderators be required to sanitise the board to suit your tastes!?

If you're incapable of dealing with other peoples opinions then social media really isn't for you.

The current board system is now one you have to pay for if you want to upgrade to a newer/smarter version.
Their basic licence is $49 a month, plus potentially costs for migration - that part isn't clear.

ProBoards looks to be a closed shop, you can't import an existing site in, or out. So you're starting from scratch, albeit on something fancier.
ProBoards was a reasonable platform 15 years ago, I was a mod on a site back in the day.

There are other forum platforms that do seem to allow you to bring over your site, but it's not something I have ever done.

So around £40 a month between us. Doesn’t seem an unreachable target!

That's the problem. the reporting function's been broken for at least a couple of years
