I saw him do an after dinner gig at the Chesterfield Hotel about 20 years ago. As I understand he always did, he spoke warmly of his time at Chesterfield and was truly grateful to the club for giving him the chance. RIP to a legend of the game.
The greatest miscarriage of justice since my case against the producers of the Never Ending Story

When I was a young guy Gordon Banks was facing penalties against anyone who wanted a go at Chesterfield FC event in Queens Park. He was walking round and he was signing autographs and didn't stop till he had signed everyone and talked football with us all. I remember him as a true Legend and one of our own. A knighthood should have come his way and can't understand why it didn't anyway RIP SIR Gordon Banks

First time I saw Gordon Banks play was at Saltergate in the FA Youth Cup Final against the mighty Manchester United with a youth by the name of Bobby Charlton in their team. I still have the programme - two World Cup winners names on it. The best in the world at the time and remains one of the best ever - made me proud to remember him as a one of ours whenever I watched him later on in his career. RIP Banksy.

Had the pleasure of sharing a table with Gordon at the Winding Wheel fund raiser. He was very happy to sign everyone's menu, which had a drawing of him making that fantastic save against Brazil and Pele, a lovely man. Rip Gordon.

I scored against him at that event!
He was over 50 and had lost an eye and was facing probably his 100th pen of the day but still!

RIP Gordon

I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Chesterfield Hotel along with another one of my childhood heros Ron Springett over 30 years ago at a sporting evening

A true Spireites legend

Edit

Just seen there is a change of programme on sky sports football tonight at 630 with Bob Wilson interviewing Gordon about his life and career

It has been on before. GB speaks well of CFC. BW was of course a Cestrafeldian.

Without doubt the greatest player to emerge from our youth team, the best one we've ever had. My mate John who I sit next to at the Protact was a proud former team mate, who will be feeling very sad tonight, shame I'll be on holiday and won't be able to share in the tributes at the Harrogate game

Yes, it’s been aired before but highly poignant tonight. The Club getting plenty of mention by both really great Cestrefeldians, Gordon by adoption, of course. Listening to them tonight is giving me a lump in my thoat. Not often I can stick my chest out and be a proud Spireite these days but I am tonight.

The greatest keeper I've ever known, he was my schoolboy and teenage hero, I wish I'd have been half as good as him. R.I.P. Gordon, Spireites, England and World no.1. Thanks for the memories especially the Pele save and the great Kevin Randall goal in the F.A.Cup. God Bless you and comfort your Family.

I met him about 20 years ago and simply said to him .....

For all the millions of saves that have been captured on film and you did the best of the lot .....

How does that feel ?

Modest as ever he said " there probably has been better"

Whatever is going on at the club we had a Word Cup winner play for us

God bless Gordon

The best
