He wasn't interested in anything else, just the way Gordon conducted himself, how he organised/spoke to his defence, his positioning etc. He said he learnt a hell of a lot from those trips to the Victoria Ground. He turned into a more than half decent 'keeper himself.

We've got a special in the program tomorrow by Jim Brown and are having a minutes applause before the start of the match too.

My old man used to regularly inform visitors that he had played at Saltergate on several occasions.

Only when pressed did he reveal that it was in the brass band at half time.

The fire brigade use that clip for training purposes to show how quickly quickly buildings and structures can be engulfed, depending on their shape and structure.

There's also harrowing testimony from the emergency services about how they couldn't reach some in the stands as the sheer heat from the fire repelled them. I feel great sorrow for a group of people who were trained and ready to respond, but couldn't. I've no idea how they carried that burden, desite being helpless in that situation.

My memory is a bit misty, but I tend to look for this kind of thing and I feel that the conditions were there at Saltergate probably similar to most wooden stands.
