How many of us recall Gordon at Stoke crossing the Victoria Ground pitch and shaking hands with Stevo before the third round game?
At the time I was glad Stevo didnt go to Leeds, and he clearly had a great time of it at Burnley and is still well thought of there , but I wonder if it cost him an England cap?
Either way, the two best keepers in the country played in that cup tie, and Town found 'em both.
I seem to recall an article about Stevenson in the DT when he was playing for town.
Apparently when Stoke were playing at home & town didn't have a game (usually midweek), Stevo used to go to the game, pay his money to stand behind the goal (no blagging a complimentary ticket) just to study Banks. He wasn't interested in anything else, just the way Gordon conducted himself, how he organised/spoke to his defence, his positioning etc. He said he learnt a hell of a lot from those trips to the Victoria Ground. He turned into a more than half decent 'keeper himself.
