I wasn't at Saturday's match but Colin Murray is asking for anyone who has seen their team play Peterborough recently to phone in to his Talksport show right now (for the midday phone-in, I think)- they have been discussing Westley's 'tactics' (eg having a player go down 'injured' around the 20/25 minute mark and gathering the players around him for instructions).

Anyone fancy ringing in and letting Mr Murray (plus Didi Hamann and Steve Bunce) know whether Mr Westley still employs extreme gamesmanship?

Warfey?

I'd love to but I'm at work.

I got a hell of a lot of abuse from Peterborough fans on twitter for claiming their team were dirty thuggish timewasters. Some of them even dragged up the tweets from last time where I said the same thing :)
None of them actually said it wasn't true though .....

Regardless of tactics or gamesmanship, the record books still say: Chesterfield 0 (9 man) Peterborough 1. We need to get over it and learn how to win games rather than crowing about the opposition. Who actually manage to win games.

:rolleyes:They got lucky last Saturday.Lucky that they didn't get more sent off.If they still continue in that vein they'll win nowt.Even the most thickest officials will soon "cotton on " and then they'll not even get decisions go their way that are deserved.

Hopefully, officials will "cotton on" but officials seem to work to a different ethics code than most of us. They have a book of rules which they stick to when it is easy to do so and they ignore when it means actually making decisions and showing strength of common sense. Worst still they all fully support each other in their inadequacies.

For instance, what is the point of repeatedly warning defences about holding, pushing and shoving but not having the strength to make a decision about it like award a penalty which would cut these offences out far quicker than any cosy chats. Then we have the time wasting tactics when, in fact, the only team that really benefits by time added on is the team doing the time wasting because they are not the ones being frustrated - when was the last person sent off after receiving two yellow cards for time wasting? Simulation of injury is another - why can't a referee book a player retrospectively when it becomes obvious he wasn't injured in the first place and, if it is to difficult for the referee, why not let the 4th official get more involved than just holding his board up?

For the record book It will read Chesterfield 0 Peterborough 1 and it won't mention 9 men

Agree with Hilly.Anything to distract from the fact Town are Bunkum and heading for relegation thanks to Dave Allan.

Mike Riley wants automatons. Fans should call less for 'consistency' and more for 'discretion' or 'common sense'- what we have right now is a lowest-common-denominator set of Andy D'Ursos with anyone with balls and common sense unlikely to make it to the top in refereeing.
These go to eleven.

As I mentioned on an earlier thread the keeper did the oldest trick in the book when we started to put a bit of pressure on second half by going down pretending to be injured
.
But of course he was soon throwing himself about again when the sting had been taken out of our attacks and the crowd quitened.

Will be interesting if he has to resort to the same con trick tonight

As Sam Morsy was sometimes booked as soon as he stepped onto the pitch because of his so called reputation with referees surely they talk about Westley and his teams
underhand tactics as well so that the referees are aware of them before a match?

If it gets to a mention on Talksport about what goes on at matches with Westley in charge surely it cant all be called sour grapes

On reflection with fat Barry as director of football its not really a surprise is it :windup

Their ball-boys apparently instructed not to give the ball back to the opposition if they are hanging on at the end of a game, as was the case last season against us, says all you need to know about the endemic cheating culture at Peterborough.

Is it on TV? If it is, I think he'll kept it a bit lower key tonight no matter what the match circumstances. Doesn't what to highlight his tactics to a wider audience

That's a narrow minded viewpoint. You should give people more credit the majority of town fans realise our deficiencis and aren't looking for excuses. However when I see tactics such as pfc adopt, being a football fan in general I will criticise. I have watched football for over 50 years and have never left a ground so disgusted as I did following pfc abhorrent tactics last season. The buck stops at the top Westley wasn't there then but the man who larer set him on was fry.

So, in other words, you would be really happy if your team played the way Westley's teams do?

Mike Riley needs to look at the "promotion" formula. One of my pet hates ie time wasting will always be a problem whilst refs "chasing marks" feel more comfortable whilst the ball isn't in play because they are not having to make contentious decisions and potentially loose a vital mark. Which begs the question why add time on at the end of a game when a "big" decision may be req'd?
