So Prem clubs vote for scrapping FA Cup replays because of the increased workload on their players, or some similar crock, but it?s ok for Newcastle and Spurs to play meaningless friendlies in Australia three weeks before the Euros start.
With Trippier limping off after half an hour.
You couldn?t make it up.
Wouldn't it be the same if they had a winter break? Premiership clubs would be raking in the cash playing a mini league or something similar in the Far East or the USA. It's sad to say that many of the clubs in the top half of the league care more about the European competitions than our own domestic cups.
I remember when FA Cup final day meant the world to every fan, player and club. Now, to most clubs it's a chore. Manchester United set the ball rolling when Ferguson played silly sods, but I wonder what his reaction would have been if Celtic had done the same in the Scottish cup? Their competition still reigns supreme and good for them.
Clubs in the lower leagues fight tooth and nail to reach round three so they can make a few bob playing one of the big clubs, and , for me, replays are part of that.
