As the curtain comes down on saltergate era, thought i'd start up a thread charting people's memories of games. Sorry if this has already be done.

Mine

First game; versus Charlton 1981, lost 1-0, don't remember much except they were in yellow.

Worst; well there's been a few but i honestly can't think of anything worse tha Port Vale this season.

Best; sadly i missed the Play off with That lot in 95, but for me it has to be the Wrexham QF in 97.

Happy days (well mostly)

best there is many but yours is up there .Luton to stay up I could fill athred on my own theres so many
anyway enough of that i have a tear in my eye
The new era starts soon and we can build our new memories

1st - v Carlisle at home 1992 I think. Dont remember a thing about the game but think we won 1.0. Got the programme somewhere.
Worst - v Wrexham. The Juan Ugarte Show. Although there have been many bad days!
Best - So many to choose from but my personal preference. v Luton and that goal from Glynn Hurst. What a day, What an atmosphere, What an escape.

1st vs notts co '89 won 3-0 or 3-1 Steve cherry in goal 4 us & Mick leonard for notts.
Worst - many but the hammering vs Colchester 1st game of season 4 nathan abbeys debut was bad just because it was deflating waiting all pre season for that!
Best - Mansfield play offs 5-2 or wrexham quarters plus I got my mush in sheff star after Mansfield game with my shirt being swung around in the air ( before i got too old and fat to do that sort of thing anymore)!!

First 1990 vs Doncaster 0-0! Had to wait for the next game to see a goal!
Worst:- Chesterfield 1-2 Mansfield....only time I have seen those lot win at our place.
Best:- West Ham, Man City in the cups. League, the Glyn Hurst Goal and Maybe the game against Halifax I think it was that gave us promotion in the aftermath of the Brown era.

First: a friendly against Dunfermline in around 1987, and then in the league, a 2-0 home win v Aldershot in 1989/90 which was then probably erased from the history books

Worst: A dire 0-0 home draw with Brentford, 96-97 ish, which made me think "What's the point?". Also, Wembley 1990 was heartbreaking

Best: 5-2 thrashing of the Stags tops it all, but a special mention for staying up away at Blackpool- Jon Douglas' goal sparked massive celebrations
These go to eleven.

First I think was Gillingham around 97 or 98. 0-0 draw but we netted 3 only for them all to be ruled offside.

Best: Bournemouth at home, Niv scored last minute winner 2-1 remember it like it was yesterday.
Worst: Has to be Port Vale this season I can't bring myself to type the scoreline.

First: Portsmouth, 80-1. The side that I came to see lost 3-0...
Worst: A 3-1 defeat to Oldham. Everything about it stank. The weather, the fact that they were as bad as we were, the soft useless goals, the dull, unadventurous football, the whole thing. We scored, ffs, and it's still the worst!
Best: Mansfield 5-2, really. Just doing those after all the poxy one-nillers they seemed to get.

first - Notts 69 - won 5-0
last - Bournemouth 10 - won 2-1
best - Reading 79 - won 7-1
worst - every game we've lost since 1969

in over 40 years I've missed no more than 50 games and been to countless reserve and junior matches as well. I shudder to think how many games that must come to. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to manage similar stats at the new ground -

First game: Wednesday 27th September 1978 vs Southend United - a 3-2 win with two goals from Steve Cammack!
Best game: Saturday 20th October 1984 vs Exeter City - a 5-1 win watched by only about 3500 even though we were doing well in the League and would go on to win Div 4 that season...the effects of the miners strike were hitting the town and I thought we played super football that day.
Worst game: The one played at New Year 1988, I think it was Friday the 1st January, we lost 2-0 to Mansfield. I thought this would be the last game I ever would see Chesterfield play as I was about to emigrate to Canada and as a 19 year old, the most upsetting thing about escaping Thatcher's Britain was that I might never see the Spireites again. I felt truly awful after the game and cried on the Kop.

RIP Saltergate - what a ground and I'll love that place for ever.

Sorry to be boring but the best is a toss up between the Mansfield play-off demolition and the 6th round nailbiter against Wrexham.

First: 2-2 v Workington, Sept 1963

Worst: So many to choose from but I'll go for 2-4 v Reading in 1989. Last match of the season, a win needed to stay up, 2-0 ahead at half time then a disastrous second half propelled us into the 4th division.

First:- Villa

Best:- Sheff utd. One boxing day, can't remember when, Danny Wilson scored a scorching freekick from about 20yrds missed first 10mins queuing to get in.

Worst:- has to be the Reading match you mentioned

First - without checking it would have been circa 76ish, home to Swansea, won either 2-0 or 2-1 with Rodney Fern scoring one.

Worst - where can you start, a midweek hiding early 80s by Chester think it was 5-2, p****g down with rain and ex town player Gary Simpson scoring at least once an FA Cup replay defeat to Darlington one year was also very grim!

Best - head and shoulders for me, a play off semi final victory, knocking in 5 past a certain other team from just up the road. followed closely by Wrexham.
