I imagine the board this year have more than likely budgeted for 6000 through the doors for home games. Thoughts?

Great turnout as usual. My thoughts are how the hell are we getting these numbers in - more compared to when we were in League one. Also, given the cost of living problems people are facing, it really is a monumental effort. Maybe football in C'Field is fashionable; more folk moving into the surrounding areas like Derby Road. Who knows? What is 'it'? Thoughts?

No cricket Saturday looking at the predicted monsoon, so this may give an opportunity for those town supporting cricketers to attend though !!!

I'm sorry to be negative, but it hasn't.
Mid 80's, crowds at Saltergate where pretty poor. We played Bristol Rovers in Nov 85 which was abandoned at half time because of fog and the crowd was 1,911. We also played Wolves the same season and the crowd was 2,588!

Crowds in all divisions were rubbish in the mid 80s, so it wasn’t a CFC thing. Doing a bit of Googling, the lowest ever average attendances in English football were in 85/86 at 8130.

Crowds have dramatically increased in recent years- across the leagues.
Quote from EFL
Over 21.7 million supporters passed through the turnstiles of an EFL competition in 2022-23, with the highest cumulative attendances recorded for league matches since 1953-54.
Not sure anyone can tells us why.

My general impression is that the cascade of young players down the league with all of the inbound traffic from abroad at the top levels, plus the improvements in coaching and facilities/pitches over the years means that the quality of football is generally much better at the lower levels than it used to be. I wonder how much impact that has?

Several factors in my opinion.
Covid - we couldn’t go to football. I think folk have realised how much they love something when they’ve not got it and are turning up in droves.
Premier League - basically it’s now football played on a different planet and to largely different rules than the rest of us. Whilst undoubtedly a global marketing success I think it’s losing its appeal to true English football fans hence people go8ng elsewhere to a point. Price is a factor here too.
Town - our support was phenomenal last season and I think that’s to do with the above and also the fact we’ve got rid of the Sheffield lot and have people in charge and a manager who clearly care. I must say it’s really pleasing to see the youth getting behind their home team too.

The Premier league also broke records- last season passing an average of 40,000 for the first time in its history.
As I said, the boom is across all the leagues.
