I have been down to the Proact today for Christmas dinner along with several members of the family including children who each received a present from
father Christmas

I can state that father Christmas was certainly not DA or you know who but suffice to say that if the team were performing as well on the pitch as good as the meal
and service we received today then we would be racing away at the top of the table

Glad to know, those individuals are to be congratulated and will be a valuable asset to the business should a takeover happen.
God I hate this league.

Well I was disappointed with the day at the proact yesterday. It wasn't as good as last year.
No one taking your coats or even there to show you where to hang your coats.
no drink on arrival.
2 staff stood at the seating plan yet neither said hello or helped with where the tables were etc just let us wander around the room looking for our table number.
No mulled cider like there was last year.
an older waitress had a go at a younger waitress in front of our table, either take them aside outside the room or just don't because it's Christmas.
the soup should have had crispy shallots on top but instead had half a shallot in the bottom.
the smoked chicken was taken straight from the fridge and was stone cold.
last year it was prawn and crayfish cocktail but this year just prawns.
Santa didn't go to every table, he let all the little kids go running up to him and didn't hand out all the presents (my son wouldn't go up to him to get a present and he came nowhere near our table so he didn't get any thing but it was just a selection box absolutely nothing to do with Chesterfield at all eg a pen or player poster etc)
Due to problems we'd had with paying (took 3 weeks of chasing just to pay deposit and then another 2 weeks of us chasing to pay the balance) I was told we would have something to say sorry on our table but there was nothing.
The gammon was more like a cheap bacon cut.
The vegetarian main course was a tart, served with mashed potatoes and a tomato sauce???
The cheese boards were straight out of the fridge, again these things should be served at room temperature.
We got most of our puddings but had to wait over 10 minutes for the christmas pudding to be brought out.

Just overall it just wasn't as good as last year, if santa hadn't have come in and there wasn't crackers on the table, it would have been a decent Sunday lunch. Absolutely nothing apart from the view of the pitch to suggest it was a football club.
Mother in law paid, so didn't feel I could complain there, but if she suggests going out for Christmas day lunch next year, it will certainly not be there. If you compare the price with what you get for new years eve, it really isn't worth it for a 3 course meal and a cup of tea with a mini mincepie.

I didn't go this year but my parents who are very critical did. They said it was superb, both the food and the service

Anything positive? Anything at all?

A mate of mine went with his family and said it was good.

The Turkey was nice as were the roast potatoes. IMO it wasn't anywhere near the high standard of last year and was more a sunday lunch than a special Christmas day lunch. Good yes, superb definitely not.
I'm being very nitpicky, but you pay a premium for Christmas day, so I expect to be greeted at the top of the stairs and to have my coat taken and hung up for me. I expect at least 1 of the 2 staff standing at the seating plan to greet me and my family, ask our names and point us to our table (especially as the was no rhyme or reason to the numbering, we were on table 19, which had table 3 on one side and table 7 the other side) instead of us having to walk around the whole room to find it ourselves. I expect the food to be as advertised and the right temperature (if it says leek and potato soup with crispy shallots, I don't expect a lump of shallot dumped in the bottom of the bowl. I don't expect a waitress to have a go at another waitress right next to our table because the gravy boat hadn't been taken away. I expect a football club to not just the children attending a selection box, even if it was an old program and a CFC branded pen.
It just wasn't special, there weren't the special touches that there were last year eg a drink on arrival, warm mulled cider available at this bar. Having looked at a few other menus in the area for Christmas day, even the pubs doing christmas day for less than £50 per person were giving people a glass of bucks fizz on arrival.

Grinch? I expect Christmas day to be special when you're paying a premium.
Maybe my expectations are too high, but I do feel that if we'd gone to the highfield on new old road and paid £38.99 so £30 less per person we would have been greeted at the door and shown to our table, they did provide a drink on arrival, one would assume that the food advertised would have been received and that waitresses didn't have a go at another waitress in earshot of customers.

I’m just confused as to why folk who are regular readers and contributors to this board would choose to have their Christmas dinner at the Proact, putting money directly into DA’s pocket when it doesn’t benefit CFC in anyway whatsoever.
If someone told me I was having my Christmas dinner there, I’d tell them I’d make do with a cheese sandwich at home.

Have you read the reviews of the highfield....

The premium you paid versus a normal Sunday is due to the additional costs - would you work Xmas day for normal wage? No, me neither...

I think you are being over picky having agreed to pay a ridiculous amount. So much cheaper at home...

£68.99 - seriously?

table 19?

were there 18 more tables?

you should have been treated like royalty for that mate

It's disgraceful if not

You can be sure that the waiting staff wouldn't have got much out of your near-on £70 pp.
